Penchecker

We’re looking for an experienced pen checker who is adaptable and willing to contribute across all areas of the feedlot. At this smaller location, pen checking may only take a few hours on certain days, with additional time spent assisting with other operational duties.

This is for our North Lot location (5500 head), located a few miles north of Coaldale, AB. 

For the right candidate, we would also consider a part-time role focused strictly on pen checking.

What You’ll Do:

• Monitor physical condition and health of cattle, ensure cattle are pulled and treated in a humane and timely manner.


• Assist veterinarians when required and as directed.


• Enter animal health into computer program.


• Ensure downer cattle receive proper feed and water.


• Help with processing cattle: induction, re-handling, vaccinations, implants, ear tags, and weight recording


• Sort cattle for marketing and move them safely within the feedlot 


• Maintain pens, equipment, and water bowls


• Follow all safety and standard operating procedures


• Communicate daily with feedlot manager, feed truck driver, and occasionally office staff or contractors

What We’re Looking For:

• Reliability, attention to detail, safety awareness, teamwork, initiative


• Cattle handling and herd health knowledge is mandatory


• Basic computer skills and effective communication

Requirements:

• High school diploma (asset)


• Agriculture or feedlot experience  


• Class 5 driver’s license


• Weekend availability

Working Conditions:
Outdoor work in all weather, generally 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM (hours may vary and part time work will be considered). Dress appropriately for conditions. Weekend work required - will work to create a healthy work/life balance.
