Job Description - Permitting Technician

Terms of Employment: Full-time, Permanent Position


 


Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8 hours per day

Duties & Responsibilities



  • Support the Regulatory & Permitting Manager in day-to-day compliance activities and tasks.

  • Prepare and coordinate permit applications in accordance with the Mines Act, Environmental Management Act, and the Joint Application process to ensure compliance with all regulatory frameworks.

  • Undertake project management tasks related to regulatory and permitting requirements, including planning, coordination, and support for various aspects of the permitting process.

  • Maintain and track compliance with environmental laws, regulations, and site permits, adhering to industry best practices and all levels of environmental regulatory standards.

  • Participate actively in regulatory compliance inspections, preparing necessary responses or reports to meet regulatory requirements and ensure full compliance with all terms and conditions of licenses, permits, approvals, and applicable environmental regulations.

  • Support permitting initiatives across all phases of construction, operations, and exploration to facilitate project advancement and operational optimization.

  • Identify permits or amendments essential for mine optimization and future development phases, ensuring regulatory compliance and project feasibility.

  • Assist in the implementation of regulatory obligations, including adherence to permit conditions and the execution of environmental management plans.

  • Provide key technical feedback and support to the community relations team to enhance the effectiveness of consultation initiatives with both Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities.

  • Serve as a primary contact for all environmental permitting matters for mine-based positions, offering expert guidance and facilitating clear communication channels.

  • Offer comprehensive technical, administrative, and project management support for permitting projects, including assistance with schedule, budget, scope changes, risk log, and document control.

  • Prepare and disseminate status summaries and schedule reporting materials, coordinating the internal review and approval of project documentation.

  • Support engagement and foster relationships with Indigenous Nations and local communities.

  • Manage and mentor consultants and contractors, ensuring high standards of work and adherence to project timelines and budgets.

  • Keep updated on legislative changes and industry best practices, advising on potential impacts and opportunities for Conuma Resources.

  • Ensure strict adherence to Conuma's environmental policies, standards, management plans, and regulatory requirements.

  • Integrate environmental policies, programs, and practices into all aspects of the organization's activities.

  • Perform other duties as required, contributing to the team's efforts in achieving environmental and regulatory objectives.

Education, Experience & Qualifications



  • Highschool Diploma, college diploma, or an associate degree in a science related field 

  • 1-3 years of Environmental Permitting experience, preferably mining, or other resource fields, demonstrating a thorough understanding of British Columbia's regulatory landscape.

  • Valid Class 5 driver's license with a willingness to travel as needed.

  • Working collaboratively with operational, engineering, and environmental teams to achieve goals, manage risks, and ensure compliance.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, paired with effective communication and negotiation abilities.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain relationships with regulatory agencies, First Nations, and other stakeholders.

  • Familiarity with Environmental Management Systems.


Technical Competencies & Skills



  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written with integrity and empathy 

  • Demonstrates strong work ethics, dedication, critical thinking and problem solving abilities 

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, experience with data management and utilization of relevant software, enhancing efficiency and accuracy in reporting and compliance monitoring.

  • Knowledgeable in federal, provincial, and local regulations related to mine design and environmental permitting

  • Implementing best practices in environmental management and compliance.

  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills, with a keen attention to detail and a conscientious dedication to maintaining accurate records.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, demonstrating productivity and effectiveness as both a team member and in engagements with external communities, including regulatory agencies and Indigenous groups.

  • Competence in prioritizing tasks based on deadlines and managing competing priorities effectively, ensuring smooth operation and compliance with all project timelines.

  • A strong ethical foundation, with a commitment to promoting a safe, sustainable, and environmentally responsible culture within the organization.


Wage and Benefits


Conuma Resources takes pride in providing industry-competitive wages and a comprehensive benefits package that truly values our employees. Specifically for the Permitting Coordinator role, we offer an annual base salary range of $70,000.00 - $87,000.00, along with a variety of bonuses. These bonuses include monthly efficiency bonuses linked to safety and production, quarterly retention bonuses, and a performance bonus tailored to reward your contributions. Our benefits package also includes paid vacation and personal days, 7% RRSP matching, and 100% employer-paid extended health and dental care, among other valuable perks.
