About the Role


We are seeking an experienced, compassionate and dependable PSW or DSW to provide individualized one-on-one support to a client in the Keswick, Sutton, Pefferlaw and Georgina area.


This role is particularly suited to a caregiver who is calm, patient, confident and consistent, and who is comfortable supporting individuals with diverse and complex support needs. The successful candidate will understand the importance of building trust, maintaining appropriate boundaries, following established routines and responding calmly and professionally when situations become challenging.


What You’ll Do


Responsibilities will be based on the individual care/support plan and may include:



  • Providing one-on-one personal and daily living support

  • Supporting established routines, structure and independence

  • Providing companionship and meaningful social engagement

  • Supporting community participation, outings and appointments

  • Using positive, respectful approaches to encourage appropriate choices and independence

  • Recognizing signs of distress, frustration or escalation and responding calmly and appropriately

  • Applying de-escalation and redirection strategies when required

  • Maintaining clear, consistent and professional boundaries

  • Supporting communication and emotional regulation

  • Meal preparation and light household tasks

  • Observing and documenting changes, incidents, concerns and progress

  • Communicating effectively with family members and the broader care team

  • Following individualized care, safety and support plans

The ideal candidate is someone who is:



  • Calm and composed under pressure

  • Patient, empathetic and non-judgmental

  • Confident establishing and maintaining appropriate boundaries

  • Able to provide clear, consistent and predictable support

  • Skilled at building rapport without becoming overly familiar

  • Observant and able to recognize changes in mood, communication or behaviour

  • Comfortable using redirection, conflict-resolution and de-escalation techniques

  • Able to work independently and exercise sound judgment

  • Reliable and consistent with scheduled assignments

  • An effective communicator and accurate documenter


Required Qualifications


Applicants must have:



  • A recognized Personal Support Worker (PSW) Certificate/Diploma OR Developmental Services Worker (DSW) Diploma or equivalent recognized qualification

  • Current First Aid and CPR certification

  • A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check

  • Valid driver’s licence and reliable access to a vehicle

  • Legal eligibility to work in Canada

  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills

  • Ability to complete electronic care documentation

  • Two professional references


Previous experience providing one-on-one support to individuals with developmental disabilities, complex support needs, mental health needs, or requiring structured behavioural support is strongly preferred.
