Job Description - Plant Manager

On behalf of our client, Oberland Agriscience,  we are looking for a Plant Manager to join their growing team.

About Our Client:

Oberland Agriscience is a sustainable black soldier fly larvae (BSFL) farm in Halifax, NS. Their mission is to close the food loop in Atlantic Canada by transforming organic by-products into nutrient-rich protein + fertilizer through zero-waste, circular economy practices. Oberland partners with local food producers + distributors to upcycle spent grains + other organic waste into valuable insect-derived products.

The Opportunity:

We are looking for a committed + experienced Plant Manager to join Oberland’s high-performing team at their Ragged Lake facility. This role will oversee the full scope of plant operations, including safety, production, + capital projects, while collaborating with leadership to drive organizational goals. The successful candidate will play a vital role in sustaining a culture of innovation, safety, + continuous improvement, +  support strategic growth.

The Ideal Candidate:

You bring over 10 years of experience managing GMP production facilities + have a proven ability to lead plant operations at a strategic + functional level. You are a strong people leader with the ability to mentor + inspire teams while fostering accountability + alignment with company values. You are skilled at managing budgets, implementing process improvements, + building cross-functional relationships both internally + externally.

 Responsibilities:
  • P&L responsibility for the Grassy Lake facility

  • Lead + direct plant safety activities

  • Oversee all aspects of the Grassy Lake production facility

  • Collaborate with the CEO, Board + senior management team to set all company targets + KPIs

  • Monitor all company targets + KPIs + prepare regular reports on organizational performance for CEO/Board

  • Manage the facility’s budget + allocate resources effectively

  • Manage all capital projects + expenditures

  • Support CEO + Board in investment raise activities as required

  • Mentor a culture of inclusion, continuous improvement + innovation

  • Participate in the design, development, + implementation of plant improvement projects

  • Drive culture of accountability at all levels of the Operations team

  • Lead, mentor + support senior leadership to ensure alignment with the company's Purpose + Values

  • Provide training + guidance to develop new supervisors + lead operators

  • Support recruitment activities + advise on team structure, compensation, + employee retention

  • Build strong internal + external relationships



Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Business Administration, Engineering, or related field; Master’s degree an asset

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience as a Plant Manager or similar senior leadership role in a GMP facility

  • Strong knowledge of production management, quality control, + regulatory compliance

  • Proficiency with ERP systems + production software

  • Experience working with a Board of Directors is a strong asset

  • Excellent leadership, communication, + organizational skills

  • Ability to make sound decisions under pressure + solve problems effectively

  • Commitment to the highest standards of safety + quality
