Job Description - Plant Manager

Plant Manager 
Salary Range: $126,300 - $154,400 per annum 
Location: Burns Lake

So,what will you be doing?
The Plant Manager directs and managesoverall production, maintenance, quality and business related activities of thesite. The individual provides tactical and strategic leadership of the site,while engaging all stakeholders to identify priorities and recommend solutionsto support the business.

KeyAccountabilities:
Leadership &Management

  • Champions the Drax Safetyculture; leads, creates, and maintains a safe and healthy work environmentby following standards and procedures; complying with legislation andregulations.
  • Creates and maintains strongrelationships with key stakeholders (Plant Management Team, Plant teammembers, Central Operations, Corporate).
  • Excels at communication bothwritten and verbal, establishes and communicates clear expectations(targets); uses great tools to measure and monitor performance and uses aclear accountable system to track & report actions.
  • Sets and owns performancestandards, communicates to team, and holds accountable through regularcommunication forums. Completes regular performance reviews andfeedback opportunities.
  • Coaches on the fly, builds andmaintains strong working relationships and proactively mitigates employeerelations situations through these relationships.
  • Champions onboarding &orientation, providing consistent & coordinated experiences for newhires
  • Champions change to driveimproved performance. Stays current with production management bestpractices, increases knowledge through educational opportunities; readstechnical publications.
  • Maintaining HR records anddocumentation.

Operational Execution

  • Owns and safely delivers onenvironmental compliance, on quality, on production, on time, and onbudget. Allocates resources effectively and fully utilizes assets toproduce optimal results.
  • Delivers and executes the annualbudget, optimizes costs and expenditures, maintain financial standards byproviding annual budget information; monitoring expenditures; identifyingvariances; implementing corrective actions. Monitors P&L on aweekly, monthly, and annual basis
  • Provides a clear sense ofdirection and focus to the team.
  • Is a teacher of Leanmanufacturing. Learns, teaches, and mentors by using lean tools withthe team. Is a champion of the lean book club.
  • Hires, trains, develops, mentors,and evaluates staff. Take corrective action as necessary on a timely basisand in accordance with company policy. Ensure compliance with currentregulations. Consult with Human Resources Department as appropriate.
  • Review performance againstoperating plans and standards. Provide reports to subordinates oninterpretation of results and approve changes in direction of plans.
  • Establish objectives andprocedures governing the performance of assigned activities. Issuespecific annual objectives to immediate subordinates and review objectives(MBOs and KPIs) to ensure alignment with corporate goals.
  • Identify training needs, initiatedevelopment of subordinates and recommend effective personnel action.
  • Works with our Fibre team toensure raw fibre inventory is adequate to meet plant requirements forvolume and cost.
  • Oversee the maintenance of allplant assets, ensuring short- and long-range planning occurs to minimizedowntime.
  • Leads the coordination of railcar requirements and loading schedules with logistics team.
  • Internal customer to theengineering team. Supports the implementation of site Capitalprojects, safely, on time, on budget.
  • Meet plant targets by working inconjunction with corporate support groups such as HSE team, Technical,Engineering, Fibre, Purchasing, Finance, and Human Resources.
  • All other job duties and responsibilitiesas assigned

Knowledge,Skills and Experience required:

  • 7 years ofmanagerial experience in leading and motivating high performing teams. Youshould have strong knowledge of business and management principles,budgeting, planning and more., preferably in Wood Products Manufacturing
  • Post-secondarydegree or diploma in business, operations, a related technical field, orrelevant focus.
  • Provencommitment to Safety both personally and through positive influence on allstakeholders. Previous experience/broad understanding of safetysystems, safety culture and achieving safe performance
  • Strongknowledge of business and management principles; budgeting, planning,resource allocation, human resources.
  • Previousexperience implementing and using continuous improvement tools such asproblem solving, Six Sigma, and Lean Manufacturing.
  • Ability toprioritize and manage multiple projects at one time and on budget.
  • Effectiveleadership and influencing skills.
  • Demonstratedability to deal effectively with others in a diverse environment.
  • Excellentoral and written communication skills.
  • Proficientwith personal computers and business applications, including the abilityto learn new systems and use Microsoft Office Products to analyse data andtrends.
