Job Description - Plant Operator - North Vancouver

Overview

:

The Plant operator inspects, maintains, and operates the RMX plant and associated equipment, performing all activities necessary to ensure efficient batching, material handling, yard duties, and team management, including but not limited to operating relevant heavy machinery (loader, telehandler, etc.), plant feeding, dump truck loading, block production and loading, yard cleaning, and more, while following and ensuring full compliance with LafargeHolcim Health, Safety, and Environmental Policies, as well as WorkSafe BC Regulations.

The successful candidate shall be willing and able to perform all the duties previously executed by the Batch, Yard, and Loader roles. The Kent Ave plant is integral to our Metro Operations and will be running consistently for the foreseeable future. This position requires a substantial long-term commitment to ensure supply and servicing to our valued customers. 

Structure:

This position reports directly to Plant Managers in the Metro Vancouver area with additional line responsibilities to the Operations Management team.

Operations Support Manager, Metro Vancouver, Lafarge Canada Inc. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Plant startup 

  • Batch concrete in a timely and efficient manner using the “Command Batch System”. 

  • Maintain quality levels as per Lafarge’s requirements, BCRMCA and CSA A23.1-04 standards. 

  • Understand and perform Delvo Stabilization Program requirements daily. 

  • Communicate with QC/QA personnel regarding all raw material, admixture, and value-added product issues. 

  • Monitor mobile radio and truck location/status for information regarding slumps of previously batched concrete or test results from job sites – adjust mixes as necessary to conform to specifications. 

  • Forecast for typical and specialty inventory requirements (cement, aggregates, KIM, etc.) to ensure adequate raw material is available when required. 

  • Monitor all inventory levels daily and order products as required. 

  • Perform monthly inventory counts and complete all other necessary month-end reports. 

  • Complete the Daily, Weekly and Monthly Plant Maintenance Record Book and report relevant issues to maintenance and/or supervisory personnel as appropriate. 

  • Perform daily housekeeping, safety compliance walk-around, and plant and mobile equipment inspections (repair and/or report findings to maintenance/supervisory personnel as appropriate). 

  • Keep the plant (and surrounding batch plant areas including offices) and yard (including block area) clean and orderly. 

  • Operate Loader, Tele-handler, and Bobcat as required (plant feeding, block production, yard cleaning, etc.) 

  • Manage and maintain yard water systems to ensure environmental compliance and efficient slurry management. 

  • Comply with Lafarge Working Alone safe work practices and procedures. 

  • Understand, promote, and aid whenever possible with the improvement of Lafarge Health & Safety and Environmental practices, policies, and efficiencies. 

  • Shut down and secure the plant and yard at the end of each shift. 

  • Perform other duties as required.

  • Qualifications: 

  • Current Plant Operator or Relief Plant Operator 

  • Qualified Batch Plant/Loader/Telehandler Operator. 

  • Confined Space Experience

  • Working at Heights Experience

  • Level 1 First Aid Experience

  • Competencies: 

  • Good knowledge of Windows Operating system and general computer skills. 

  • Good knowledge of concrete batch plant operations (plant types, plant equipment, etc.). 

  • Good knowledge of quality control operations such as mix designs, admixtures and aggregates etc. 

  • A level of fitness sufficient to perform all the required duties. 

  • Superior work ethic and a “Safety First” mentality in all areas of the workplace. 

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to troubleshoot operational problems in a timely fashion. 

  • Superior judgment and the ability to fix minor problems locally while referring major issues to appropriate maintenance and supervisory personnel. 

  • Class 1 or 3 (with air endorsement) driver’s license. 

  • Good oral and written communication skills. 

  • Ability to work as a member of a team.

  • The successful applicant for this position must work well in a team environment, demonstrate a strong work ethic, and continuously improve their own personal performance as well as the performance of the broader Metro Vancouver market.
