Requirements

• 
  Generally a high
  school diploma is required.
  
  
• 
  Completion of a
  three - or four -year apprenticeship in plastering, drywall or
  turning.
  
  
  
• 
  Usually requires a
  combination of more than three years of work experience and
  some high school, college, or industry plastering, plastering
  or turning.
  
  
• 
  The plasterer trade
  certification is required in Quebec and is available, but not
  required, in Ontario, Saskatchewan and British
  Columbia.
  
  
• 
  Professional
  drywall installation and finishing certificates are
  available, but voluntary, in British Columbia.
  
  
  
• 
  Professional
  certification for lathes (furniture mills) is required in
  Quebec and is available, but not required, in all other
  provinces and the Yukon.
  
  
• 
  Red Seal
  Certification is also offered to qualified lathes (interior
  systems mechanics) after passing the intercity Red Seal
  exam.
