Job Description - Power System Study Specialist

This Position reports to:

Service Manager


 

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

  • Serve as the technical lead for power system simulations and grid/interconnection compliance across the Americas.
  • Lead delivery of generator/grid compliance studies and oversee RMS and EMT simulation work using industry tools (e.g., PSS®E, PSCAD, PowerFactory, RTDS).
  • Ensure high-quality model development, validation, and clear reporting aligned with utility and operator expectations.

Regulatory & Standards Alignment

  • Interpret and apply North American reliability/interconnection requirements (e.g., NERC and ISO/RTO expectations) and Latin American local grid codes, as applicable.
  • Coordinate with utilities and grid operators (transmission/system operators and planning/reliability counterparts) to secure approvals and resolve technical gaps.
  • Maintain awareness of evolving standards, grid codes, and compliance practices across the region.

Customer Engagement & Representation

  • Act as the primary customer-facing SME for grid modeling and compliance in the Americas.
  • Support technical workshops, clarifications, and executive-ready client communications.

Business Growth & Market Development

  • Identify and support opportunities in grid code compliance, dynamic modeling, commissioning/model validation support, and grid modernization studies across North and South America.
  • Build relationships with key market stakeholders (developers, utilities, IPPs, OEMs, EPCs, consult-ants) and support proposals and technical positioning.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with extensive experience in Power Generation and Power System Studies; a Master’s or PhD is considered an asset.
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in power system analysis, grid integration studies, and dynamic simulation.
  • Proven expertise with simulation tools such as PSS®E, PSLF, PSCAD, PowerFactory, and RTDS.
  • Proven experience developing automation tools/tasks using Python and MATLAB in conjunction with simulation tools.
  • Strong understanding of NERC standards, including MOD-026, MOD-027, PRC-019, and PRC-024 or other local standards, as applicable.
  • Experience working with ISOs/RTOs and utilities across the Americas.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex studies and influence technical decisions.
