Pre-Employment Support Caseworker

Term: Full-time, Term Contract - until March 2027
Location: Seabird Island Band Office, Agassiz, BC 
Status: In-Office

Schedule: Monday to Friday 8:00 - 4:30 pm.
Salary: Starting from $32.61 an hour – Depending on skills and experiences.

About the Role

As a Pre-Employment Support Caseworker (PESP Caseworker), your primary role will be to help community members prepare for employment, access training and education opportunities, secure meaningful work, and develop long-term career pathways.  Acting as a career coach, and advocator, and community connector, you'll support individuals in identifying and overcoming barriers to employment while providing guidance on career planning, job readiness, and personal development. The role works collaboratively with the Pre-Employment Supports Program (PESP), Income Assistance, SASET, Seabird College, and the Health Department to ensure clients receive coordinated, holistic support that promotes employment success, self-sufficiency, and overall well-being.

Key Responsibilities:

PESP - Community Employment and Readiness Support

• Meet with clients one-on-one and in small groups.


• Help people identify and overcome barriers to employment.


• Support clients with career planning and goal setting.


• Provide information about education, training, and employment opportunities.


• Assist clients in developing the skills needed to find and keep a job.


• Guide clients through employment, training, and educational programs.


• Connect clients with resources and services that can support their success.


• Build relationships with local employers and identify job opportunities.


• Advocate for clients with employers and service providers when needed.


• Promote employment and training opportunities within the community.


• Conduct community outreach to increase awareness of available supports.


• Work closely with other PESP Support Workers to coordinate services.


• Collaborate with Income Assistance, SASET, SIB College, and Health Department staff.


• Ensure clients receive coordinated and consistent support across programs.


• Help community members achieve sustainable employment and long-term career success.

Qualifications & Experience

• Degree in Social Services, Human Resources, or a related field is preferred. 


• Career Development Practitioner (CDP) Certificate is required or willing to obtain.


• Certification to offer Drivers Training is an asset. • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in employment counseling, career development, or a similar role, preferably within an Indigenous or community-focused organization. 


• Experience working with diverse populations, including individuals facing employment barriers. 


• Familiarity with local labor market trends and understanding of employment opportunities within the region. 


• Experience in facilitating workshops and training sessions, with the ability to adapt content to meet the needs of various learning styles.
