Main duties of the job

Following an initial period of transition with our education teams the Clinical Practitioners will support delivery of our frontline service working alongside Paramedics and other pre-hospital clinicians. Key responsibilities of the role include:

Be accountable for the assessment, treatment, diagnosis, supplying and administering of medicines, managing, discharging, and referring patients in a range of urgent, emergency, critical or out of hospital settings.

Provide effective clinical leadership, development and mentorship to operational personnel, including newly qualified paramedics and students to support the delivery of a high-quality patient centered service.

Contribute to the development of an integrated approach to the delivery of unscheduled/out of hours care involving all relevant stakeholders including health and social care organisations.

A shift on an ambulance is like no other workplace. You will operate in a wide range of environments, across both urban and rural areas managing everything from birth to end of life, chronic conditions to critical illness or injury.

About us

EEAST employs over 5,000 staff with a further 1,000+ volunteers who between them cover 7,500 square miles and care for a population of more than 6 million.

Our three control rooms in Bedfordshire, Norfolk and Essex handle more than 1 million 999 calls every year, over 2,500 calls a day.

We manage a fleet of over 1,000 vehicles including double staffed ambulances, rapid response cars, operational commander response vehicles, patient transport and support service vehicles.

The East of England works alongside 17 Acute Trusts with Accident & Emergency services and a Major Trauma Centre in Cambridge. Access is available to neighbouring MTCs such as those in London.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Nurse registered with Nursing & Midwifery Council
  • Hold Full UK manual driving licence for 12 months (up to 3 points may be considered dependant on point code)
  • C1 category license to be obtained within 6 months of joining EEAST C1.
  • Mentorship qualification or willing to obtain within the first 12 months
  • Desirable

  • Pediatric Immediate Life Support (PILS) or equivalent
  • Experience

    Essential

  • IT Literacy Skills.
  • Able to complete clinical and other records to a high standard.
  • Ability to lead a team in and lead in an emergency situation.
  • Experience in dealing with a diverse range of people in a customer/patient environment
  • Substantial Post registration experience in an acute setting , emergency department, acute medical unit, acute assessment unit, critical care; or experience in an alternative setting where autonomous clinical decision making and urgent care planning was required , primary and urgent care, specialist assessment and treatment units or relevant pre-hospital voluntary experience.
  • Experience working with a level of autonomy.
  • Experience of performing invasive procedures such as Intramuscular IM injections and Intravenous IV cannulation
  • Experience in making complex patient care decisions / treatment plans.
  • Desirable

  • Experience of managing patients' medication needs using patient group directives (PGDs).
