Prevention Director

About the Opportunity

Potlotek First Nation is seeking a qualified and committed Prevention Director to provide strategic leadership, development, and oversight of prevention-focused programs and services that support children, youth, and families within the community. The successful candidate will help strengthen early intervention, family wellness, and community-based initiatives that are culturally grounded, trauma-informed, and responsive to community needs.

Position Summary

The Prevention Director is responsible for the strategic leadership, development, and oversight of prevention-focused programs and services that support children, youth, and families within Potlotek First Nation.

This role focuses on early intervention, family strengthening, and community-based wellness initiatives that are culturally grounded and trauma-informed. The Director ensures programs align with Potlotek priorities, funding requirements, and community needs.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Program Leadership and Development

• Provide overall leadership and management of prevention and family wellness programs.


• Develop and implement strategic plans, program goals, and service priorities.


• Oversee the design, delivery, and evaluation of prevention programs and services.


• Ensure services are culturally grounded, trauma-informed, and community-driven.


• Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and program standards.


• Ensure compliance with funding agreements, legislation, and reporting requirements.

Staff, Community, and Partnership Engagement

• Supervise and support staff, including recruitment, onboarding, and performance management.


• Engage with community members, families, Elders, and youth to assess needs.


• Build partnerships with internal departments and external service providers.


• Support collaboration across health, education, and social services sectors.

Financial, Reporting, and Strategic Responsibilities

• Oversee program budgets and ensure responsible financial management.


• Prepare reports, funding proposals, and program documentation.


• Participate in strategic planning and community initiatives.


• Perform additional duties as assigned by the COO.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Indigenous Studies, Community Development, or a related field.


• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  


• Master's degree is considered an asset.

Experience and Skills

• Experience in program leadership, prevention services, or community-based programming.


• Experience supervising staff and managing teams.


• Strong understanding of social determinants of health.


• Knowledge of trauma-informed and culturally grounded practices.


• Experience with budgeting, reporting, and program development.


• Strong communication, organizational, leadership, and team management skills.


• Strategic planning and decision-making ability.


• Financial oversight and accountability.


• Conflict resolution and relationship management skills.


• Ability to work independently while maintaining accountability to senior leadership.

Additional Requirements

• Valid driver's license.


• Satisfactory Criminal Record Check.


• Vulnerable Sector Check.


• Child Abuse Registry Check.


• Ability to work in office and community environments and travel for meetings, programs, and partnerships.


• Some evening and weekend work may be required.


• Ability to work professionally in high-demand and complex social environments.
