Job Description - Prevention Service Worker

                                                                         Prevention Service Worker




GENERAL DESCRIPTION: 


 


Prevention workers shall provide primary prevention services to First Nation communities, families, and children, designed to: ensure the well-being of children, reduce the incidence of all forms of abuse and neglect, support and strengthen family units, and reduce the number of children requiring alternative placement or admission to care. These outcomes are achieved by increasing community and family awareness, helping resources, and networking capacity.


 


 


RESPONSIBILITY:



The Prevention Services Worker reports to the Senior Prevention Services Worker or in some cases the Director of Services in all aspects of job functions and will exercise the following duties under the supervision of the Senior Prevention Services Worker




QUALIFICATIONS: 





  • Community College Diploma with a minimum one-year experience in the management of services for children and their families or a comparable human service program. However, others with a combination of skills, education and experience that would allow them to do the job may be considered.


 




  • Knowledge of the Child and Family Services Act and Regulations, particularly in the application of Part X relating to Customary Care of the First Nations.


 




  • Expert knowledge of Customary Care and the philosophy of service development and delivery; the communities and family structure, as well as local First Nation customs and traditions.                                              




  • Working knowledge of the administrative structure and operations of Kitapinoonjiiminaanik Family Services including the service delivery model, policies, procedures and guidelines.


 




  • Knowledge of the structure and operations of Grand Council Treaty #3 and the First Nations in the Kenora area including tribal and external services and service agencies in the area.


 




  • Demonstrated ability to prepare comprehensive narrative and statistical reports regarding service delivery and procedures.


 




  • Experience in designing and conducting, planning and training workshops.


 




  • Ability to establish and maintain purposeful relationships with clients, colleagues, other relevant organizations and management.





  • Strong commitment to helping Anishinaabe children and their families by providing services in ways that respect Anishinaabe cultural and spiritual practices.





  • Commitment to providing services in the Anishinaabe context of extended family and community involvement.


 




  • Excellent planning, organization, problem-solving, and interpersonal.


                                




  • Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary Child Welfare team.


 




  • Working knowledge of conflict resolution techniques.





  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.


 




  • Ability to take direction and to work within the policies, procedures, and guidelines, mission, philosophy, and core values of the Agency.


 




  • Ability to flex daily work hours as determined by the Senior Prevention Services Worker and/or the Director of Services.





  • Must possess a valid Ontario Driver’s License and be willing to travel.


 




  • Must provide a clear Criminal Records Check and Driver’s Abstract; and


 




  • Ability to speak Ojibway is preferred and a definite asset.
