Job Summary
The Process Operator supports the safe and efficient operation of a chemical leach extraction plant, producing PGM concentrate and managing associated waste streams. This role involves equipment operation, process sampling, chemical handling, material movement, and general plant support. Operators are responsible for accurate sampling, adherence to safety procedures, and assisting with shipping, receiving, QC, and cleaning duties. This is a physically active role in a chemical processing environment, reporting directly to the Production Supervisor.
What You’ll Do
- Operate process equipment such as tanks, pumps, mixers, filters, and associated systems following standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Collect, label, and deliver process samples (e.g., feed, leach liquor, residue, final product, and tailings) per the sampling schedule and record all activity clearly.
- Handle and transfer chemicals and reagents safely and responsibly, using appropriate PPE and containment methods.
- Load and unload materials including bulk chemicals, packaging, and waste product using forklifts, pallet jacks, or scissor lifts.
- Support receiving activities: offload deliveries, verify packing lists, store materials safely, and report discrepancies.
- Assist with packaging and shipping of final product and tailings waste for off-site disposal.
- Monitor process indicators (e.g., pressure, flow, temperature, pH) and promptly report unusual readings or deviations to the Production Supervisor.
- Perform basic inspections and routine maintenance tasks such as line checks, equipment cleaning, and filter changes.
- Maintain clean and organized work areas, ensuring proper storage and segregation of chemicals and materials.
- Follow all site safety protocols, including use of lockout/tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, spill containment, and emergency response procedures.
- Communicate regularly with the Production Supervisor regarding task progress, issues, or required support.
- Participate in daily shift handovers and support operational continuity during the scheduled overlap between morning and afternoon shifts.
- Attend and actively participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings, and required training sessions.
- Participate in the development, review, and continuous improvement of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Safe Work Practices (SWPs), providing practical input based on day-to-day operational experience.
What You'll Need
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 1 year of forklift operating experience
- Familiarity with PPE standards and equipment, including clean-shaven requirements for full-face respirators
- Ability to regularly lift up to ~25 kg
- Proficiency with basic hand tools
- Fluency in English, with strong verbal communication and comprehension skills
- Working knowledge of MS Office applications, including SharePoint and Teams
How You’ll Stand Out
- Experience in chemical processing or manufacturing environments
- Hands-on experience handling chemicals and/or hazardous materials
- Technical diploma or trade experience in pipefitting
- Proficiency with basic power tools
- Valid WHMIS certification
- Valid forklift operator certification
- Valid confined space certification
Working Hours & Environment
This is a full-time, hourly, on-site position with pH7 Technologies, based at our recycling plant in Burnaby, BC. The Process Operator role is primarily plant-floor based, with day-to-day responsibilities that may vary across team members.
8-hour shifts, Monday to Friday, with regular opportunities for overtime.
