Job Description - Produce Supervisor

Italian Centre Shop is currently recruiting for a Full-Time Produce Supervisor to join our growing team at our Northland Village location: Northland Village Mall, Unit 501, 5111 Northland Drive NW, Calgary, Alberta.

Summary


The Produce Supervisor ensures that the produce department is always performing in an effective and efficient manner, minding the Italian Centre Shop Ltd.'s policies and procedures for all actions and decisions. Produce Supervisors support and follow Italian Centre Shop Ltd.'s mission and values.   


What you'll be doing 



  • Coordinating departmental activities and operations.

  • Greeting and assisting customers in a manner that models exemplary conduct for other staff.

  • Leading by example helps build departmental commitment to high standards of service.

  • Encouraging a positive team atmosphere that enables the team to meet or exceed goals and achieve consistently high levels of customer service.

  • Ensuring all customer complaints are addressed and handled professionally, leaving the customer with a positive resolution.

  • Training employees in company products and knowledge.

  • Conducting one-on-one or small group training presentations for product knowledge, store activities, and established policies and procedures.

  • Striving to minimize staff turnover and keep team headcount at acceptable levels.

  • Maintaining a calm demeanor during times of high volume or unusual events will keep the store running smoothly and set a good example for your team.

  • Assisting with new employee training by positively reinforcing successful performance and giving respectful and encouraging coaching as needed.

  • Contributing to the strategic and tactical planning processes.

  • Supervising the activities of all produce clerks.

  • Providing feedback to the store manager on employee performance.

  • Administering disciplinary action in accordance with established procedures.

  • Providing and maintaining a safe work environment, which includes safety training for staff when required.

  • Regularly communicating and collaborating between other departments and with other stores.

  • Responding to and resolving employee issues, escalating as necessary to the department head and/or store manager.

  • Putting department plans and budgets into action as directed by the department manager.

  • Driving sales while honoring trends within the department.

  • Staffing scheduling, maintaining budgeted labor hours.

  • Assisting with inventory management.

  • Adhering to all food safety protocols, standard operating procedures, health and safety policies, and other programs and initiatives.

  • Other duties as required.


Financials



  • Assisting with department plans and budgets, including labor budgets, is achieved through effective scheduling, measuring results, allocating resources, reviewing progress, and making mid-course corrections as required.

  • Assisting in implementing the strategy for the department.

  • Assisting with payroll for the department.


Team Building



  • Building a strong, cohesive team where employees feel they contribute and are valued.

  • Growing their team and empowering employees to make decisions on their own.

  • Delegating responsibilities to their employees.

  • Identifying key performers and providing opportunities for growth, development, and advancement.


Staffing



  • Supervising the work of the produce employees.

  • Ensuring schedules are completed and posted for employees in a timely manner.

  • In conjunction with Human Resources, helps with recruiting and selects new cash staff.

  • Holding monthly staff meetings to keep employees informed of operations and company news.


Employee Relations



  • Providing employees with regular feedback on their performance.

  • Following up with employees who violate company policy and ensure that proper progressive discipline forms are completed.


Training and Development



  • Providing standardized training for all new and existing employees, including health and safety.


We train the right candidate, but most successful candidates have these: 



  • High school diploma or GED from an accredited school system or program is preferred.

  • A minimum of one year of experience in retail is preferred.

  • One year of experience in a supervisory or managerial role is preferred.


Skills and Abilities



  • Excellent listening skills and communication skills, both verbally and written.

  • Ability to work under pressure while always maintaining a professional image.

  • Can work independently with little direct supervision.

  • Have a well-balanced concern for both tasks and people.

  • Ability to delegate duties and responsibilities.

  • Have a genuine concern for the needs of customers.


Working conditions 



  • Required to work a variety of shifts, including early mornings, days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

  • Required at times to work with challenging customers and/or situations. 

  • Exposed to hot, cold, and dusty environments.


Physical requirements 



  • Long periods of standing, walking, and sitting.

  • Frequent motions include bending, twisting, squatting, pushing, pulling, and reaching. 

  • Includes manual and repetitive tasks.

  • On occasion, you may be required to lift up to 22.5 kg (50 lbs.)
