Job Description - Production Technician

Job Title: Production Technician


Location: Head Office | Calgary, Alberta*


Travel Required: To field locations, as necessary


Employment Type: Full-time, Salary Position


Reporting to: Manager, Measurement & Automation


* The position is currently located in Head Office; however, we will consider a field location (e.g., our Olds or Grande Prairie, Alberta office) if that makes good business sense for Whitecap and the candidate.


Position Overview:


This position is primarily responsible for supporting the guidance, development, and maintenance of measurement related policies and software programs and providing regulatory reporting guidance to various stakeholders at Whitecap. This position is instrumental in supporting volumetric reporting and associated operations measurement software.


Key Job Accountabilities:



  • Provide guidance and program oversight for our FDC (Production Manager), including programming, asset setups/management, and training

  • Provide support & administration of our ProTrend Sampling & Calibration-Prove modules management

  • Support our measurement schematic program by managing annual/monthly reviews as required

  • Assist in the management of our Fuel.Flare.Vent software, including asset setup & administration

  • Provide technical support to the teams with respect to the development, implementation, and management of the EPAP program

  • Be the liaison between the production accounting, field operations, measurement and engineering groups to ensure adequate processes and communication tools are in place for accurate and timely reporting

  • Liaise with regulator(s) for audits and facilitate responses where required

  • Assist in the development of training material for all disciplines

  • Support health, safety, environmental, and regulatory behaviors / requirements through day-to-day activities that demonstrate adherence to Whitecap’s policies

  • Attend ongoing training to further personal development.


Primary Qualifications and Skills:



  • Minimum 5 years of industry experience

  • Understanding of Western Canadian measurement regulations, including:

  • AER D17/D76/D07/D60

  • MER PNG017/PNG076/PNG036

  • BC OGC Measurement Guideline

  • Excellent working knowledge of operations systems including: FDC systems (Production Manager, PVR & Avocet, ProdView), Petrinex, ZediAccess, Data Scavenger, SCADA, Metrix, and ProStream)

  • Operations experience and knowledge in SCADA or SQL considered an asset

  • Ability to work in a team environment with strong communication skills and the ability to prioritize tasks

  • Detail-oriented with a high level of integrity and professionalism

  • Self-starter, motivated to initiate projects, and analyze innovative solutions to business challenges

  • Excellent computer skills (MS Office Suite)

  • Must be able to work in Canada
