Job Description - Program Coordinator 2 FT/Permanent
Job Summary:
The Métis Family Services (MFS) Program Coordinator 2 oversees the daily operations of their respective program including directing staff assignments to ensure that the goals and objectives of the program are met. The Program Coordinator 2 provides supervision (includes casework), planning, coordination, administration, management, field training and support to Métis Family Services workers, as well as day to day direction and follow-up of referrals that come from the Ministry and MFS social work field staff, community agencies and the public. The primary goal is to reduce the number of Métis children coming into care and promote the healthy strengthening of youth and families, facilitate community strengthening and promote capacity building within the family unit.
Reports to: Associate Director of Programs & Practice
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Plans and develops a program in consultation with the Director of Programs and Practice. Plans and implements program activities and special events.
Formulates program policies and procedures and evaluates the program in consultation with the Director of Programs and Practice.
Oversees the day-to-day operation of the program by ensuring that the necessary facilities and equipment are in place, program guidelines and policies are adhered to, and program standards and licensing requirements are met.
Supervises program staff by performing duties such as assigning work, providing feedback on performance, and conducting performance evaluations.
Ensures good communication between front-line staff and management.
Facilitate and participate in weekly case management team meetings.
Oversees referral, intake, and discharge planning.
Reviews follow-up cases to ensure maximum quality of client care.
Ensure that accuracy with the program and client records.
Ensure that client confidentiality and that consistent procedures are maintained.
Maintains effective working relationships with the Team Leaders, MCFD, community services organizations and the Aboriginal welfare agencies.
Ensures the services provided are reflective of an integrated case management/wraparound service approach.
Ensures that services are strength-based and built on the family’s capacity to take care of their own children, as well as directing their own service plans.
Participates in the recruitment and selection of program staff by performing duties such as screening applicants, participating on interview panels, and making hiring recommendations.
Schedules program staff in accordance to program staffing requirements.
Orients, determines the need for and provides training to program staff, volunteers and practicum students.
Monitors and authorizes program expenditures and maintains financial records in accordance with established procedures. Prepares the program budget for submission and presentation to senior management and/or the Board of Directors.
Promotes public awareness of and support for the program by performing duties such as producing promotional materials and attending community events.
Liaises with community service providers and other professionals to coordinate service provision, facilitate referrals to the program and represent the organization or program in external events.
Maintains related records and statistics and produces reports as required.
May be required to drive from time to time to meet program needs.
Performs other related duties as required
Qualifications, Education and Experience:
Diploma in a related human / social service field
Three (3) years of recent related experience, including one (1) year of supervisory or administrative experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Skills and Abilities
Excellent oral and written English skills.
Expertise in facilitation and interpersonal communication skills
Sound knowledge of Child, Family and Community Services Act and other relevant acts and statues
Good working knowledge of related theories, principles, and techniques in child protective and family preservation/reunification services
Ability to implement the philosophy of integrated case management/wraparound client service.
Knowledge of Aboriginal/Métis healing practices, ceremonies, values and beliefs
Ability to provide mediation and intervention with both staff and clients.
Solid assessment skills including those required for good case management.
Demonstrated teamwork, leadership and supervisory skills.
Tact, sound judgement, good skills in handling complex interviews.
Good computer skills and ability to navigate the internet.
Excellent time and general management skills
Additional Information:
This position is required to perform in a stressful environment, often dealing with clients in crisis. Management of emergencies and providing assistance and support under the pressure of short deadlines is expected. The willingness to be flexible and to work effectively both independently when required and with the senior management staff is essential.

Other Requirements:
May be required to work outside core business hours (evenings and weekends)
Required to use own vehicle. Valid Class 5 Driver’s License, Driver’s Abstract and a reliable and safe vehicle.
Successful completion of security screening requirements of Métis Family Services, which includes a criminal records check, and/or Criminal Records Review Act (CRRA) check, police record checks, enhanced security screening and degree verification.
Satisfactory proof of legal authorization to work in Canada.
