Responsibilities

This employment opportunity is restricted to residents of Rankin Inlet only.

As a member of the Community Services Support Team, the Program Officer delivers initiatives to facilitate provision of resources, information and training necessary for Nunavummiut to make informed decisions about community development. The successful incumbent will be reporting to the Manager, Community Economic Development. This position has a general impact on the Department, it’s Branches and Division. 

The Program Officer delivers initiatives to facilitate provision of resources, information and training necessary for Nunavummiut to make informed decisions about community development by: Facilitating market, product and service research and feasibility studies for strategy, policy and program planning and delivery; Participate in the delivery of Community Service’s innovative community regional strategies and programs to promote community capacity building, business, arts, cultural industries, mining, mineral exploration, fisheries, sealing, and tourism product development; Analyze community-based plans to identify and implement community priorities; Build and maintaining working, partnering and communications relationships with government, crown corporations, community governments and employees and industry to support effective and efficient program delivery; Promote information and support by: Promoting integration and implement of Government if Nunavut’s priorities, including the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement and incorporation if Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit (IQ); Providing advice to Community Service’s and its clients on issues, trends, legal implications, business product technology, tourism and TTA regulatory compliance; Collaborating at the regional level to support the traditional community mixed and informal economies by identifying and developing opportunities for initiatives; Participating in training and development asset and needs assessments and priority setting exercises with communities and other stakeholders; Perform other duties as assigned.



Qualifications

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a recognized University degree in Economic Development, Commerce, Renewable Resource Management, Land Use Planning, Public or Business Administration or a related field. Two (2) years of related experience.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land,Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
