The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is seeking a full-time, contract (12 months) Program Officer to support the Laboratory of Behavioural Neuroendocrinology within the Campbell Family Mental Health Research Institute. Working closely with the Principal Investigator (PI), the Program Officer will provide administrative, operational, and research support to facilitate the day-to-day activities of the laboratory.
The successful candidate will primarily support the administrative and operational functions of the laboratory, assisting the PI and Research Lab Manager with research coordination, scientific communications, regulatory compliance, and general laboratory administration. Responsibilities will include coordinating meetings and calendars, preparing correspondence, maintaining CVs and academic documentation, coordinating travel arrangements, assisting with procurement and financial administration, preparing reports and presentations, and supporting donor, grant, and project reporting.
The successful candidate will also contribute to scientific communication and knowledge translation activities by assisting with the preparation and formatting of manuscripts, grant applications, reports, presentations, posters, and other research materials. Experience with graphic design, figure preparation, data visualization, and maintaining professional academic documents, including CVs, publication records, and other laboratory materials, will be considered an asset. The Program Officer will contribute to a collaborative, organized, and inclusive research environment while supporting the laboratory’s commitment to scientific excellence, regulatory compliance, and responsible conduct of research.
Provide administrative and secretarial support to the Principal Investigator, including calendar management, meeting coordination, correspondence, travel arrangements, and document preparation.
Work closely with the Research Lab Manager to support the day-to-day administrative and operational activities
Coordinate laboratory administrative activities, including procurement, ordering supplies, maintaining inventory records, and supporting equipment maintenance documentation.
Assist with financial administration, including expense tracking, reimbursement submissions, pre-authorizations, financial documentation, and preparation of reports as required for the PI
Support travel coordination for the PI and laboratory members, including booking arrangements, preparing travel documentation, and ensuring compliance with institutional travel policies.
Prepare, maintain, and coordinate Animal Care Committee (ACC) protocols, biosafety applications, SOPs, and other regulatory documentation and amendments.
Support laboratory compliance activities by maintaining research records, monitoring documentation requirements, and ensuring protocols and procedures are up to date.
Coordinate onboarding activities for students, staff, and trainees, including orientation, documentation, and training records.
Develop and format scientific figures, graphical abstracts, presentations, and other visual communication materials using graphic design software.
Maintain and update laboratory CVs, publication lists, websites, and other academic and administrative records.
Support general laboratory operations and perform other administrative, operational, and research support duties as assigned.
3+ years of general work experience in a customer service role in a public sector setting, with preference given to experience in a health care setting.
1+ year of experience in general research or research administration.
Bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience, Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Psychology, Health Sciences, or a related discipline.
Minimum two (2) years of experience providing administrative, operational, or research support in an academic, hospital, or research environment.
Experience working in a preclinical neuroscience or biomedical research laboratory is preferred
Experience supporting research administration, including preparation or maintenance of Animal Care Committee (ACC) protocols, biosafety documentation, SOPs, or related regulatory materials is an asset.
Experience providing administrative or executive support, including calendar management, meeting coordination, travel arrangements, correspondence, and document preparation.
Experience supporting procurement activities, expense tracking, reimbursement processes, financial documentation, and travel coordination is considered an asset.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and familiarity with databases, laboratory information systems, or research management tools.
Experience preparing scientific manuscripts, presentations, grant documents, reports, and knowledge translation materials.
Experience with graphic design and scientific visualization software (e.g., Canva, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, BioRender, or equivalent) for figure preparation, presentations, and communication materials is strongly preferred.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong attention to detail, and ability to maintain accurate records.
Demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced research environment.
