PROGRAMMER (Adult, Outdoor, Community Events) 18 Month Term - (25-068) External Closes Oct. 5/25

The City of Campbell River is searching for an experienced Programmer to join our Recreation & Culture Team in this 18 Month Term full-time position of 35 hours per week.

Naturally, Campbell River – Located on Vancouver Island, the City of Campbell River offers a rare combination of a welcoming small-town feel with large-city amenities. We are a 45-minute drive from the winter and summer activities of Mount Washington, and just minutes from more than 100 km of all levels of mountain biking and hiking trails, plus easy access to the ocean, rivers and lakes for sports fishing, kayaking, paddle boarding and whale watching.

The role: The programmer reports to the Recreation Program Manager and takes day to day direction from the Program Coordinator, the Programmer works in the planning and development of recreation and culture services for the City of Campbell River with respect to Adult, Outdoor, Special Events and Community Outreach.  You will need to be flexible and open to rotating into other program areas for developmental opportunities and to provide support to other teams.

What we offer: The rate of pay for this CUPE bargaining unit 18 month term position is $34.04 per hour, based on a 35 hour work week. Recreation Programmer - Job Description 

Education

• Two (2) year diploma in recreation or closely related field, from a recognized post-secondary institution, combined with a minimum of three (3) years’ experience in the programming, planning, scheduling, marketing, and promoting of community recreation programs and events, within the last seven (7) years.

OR

• A one (1) year certificate program in recreation or closely related field, from a recognized post-secondary institution, combined with a minimum of five (5) years recent experience in the programming, planning, scheduling, marketing, and promoting of community recreation programs and events, within the last ten (10) years

Training

• Must possess and maintain a criminal record and vulnerability sector check.
• Must possess and maintain valid Emergency First Aid and CPR certifications.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 driver’s license and must produce and maintain a clean driver’s abstract, as per City policy.

Experience

• Three (3) years recent experience in programming, planning, scheduling, marketing, and promoting of community recreation programs and events, within the last seven (7) years.  
• One (1) year recent supervisory experience, within the last seven (7) years.
• Experience working with citizens of all ages and abilities.
