Your role 

As a Psychologist in the Mental Health Screening Unit, you will work in close collaboration with custodial, Justice Health, and services and programs staff to deliver high-quality psychological assessment and intervention within a specialised unit. You will provide expert advice to staff and key stakeholders, supporting informed, evidence-based decision-making in the support of individuals in custody.

This role offers a unique opportunity to deepen your clinical expertise while working with a diverse client group in a complex and dynamic setting. We offer regular clinical supervision with an experienced Senior Psychologist and monthly peer group supervision.

What you’ll do 

• Deliver high-quality psychological assessment and evidence-based interventions to individuals in custody.


• Provide expert clinical advice to staff on offender mental health, risk, and behaviour  support, including the assessment of violent and sexual offending risk.


• Contribute to the development of behaviour support and case plans as part of a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team.


• Maintain accurate, compliant, and timely documentation within our offender database (OIMS) and psychology case files.


• Prepare professional reports and provide consultation to key statutory bodies, including the State Parole Authority, Serious Offenders Review Council, and Mental Health Review Tribunal.

What we’re looking for 

• A motivated psychologist to provide an ethical and effective psychology service in a dynamic mental health environment in the context of limited or scarce professional resources.


• Demonstrated experience in assessment and treatment of mental health issues and cognitive impairment. Experience in working with people in contact with the criminal justice system would be an advantage but is not essential.

Essential requirements

• Minimum four-year accredited qualification in psychology, with current full AHPRA registration with the Psychology Board of Australia.
