The City of Brooks requires one (1) Public Works Maintenance Level I, II, or III, in the Public Works Department. This is a full-time permanent and union position. 

Job Details & Responsibilities:

This position performs a variety of duties associated with the maintenance of the City’s infrastructure. The Public Works Level I, II, or III position provides direction and guidance in performing work duties to more junior employees (i.e. seasonal and casual staff) within the department’s operations. You will provide skilled and competent operation of various equipment including but not limited to: power washer/line painter, various power tools, single-axle trucks, forklift, steamer, bobcat, loaders (front end), garbage truck, VAC truck, street sweeper, Aerial Lift Truck, Rubber Tire Backhoe (front and back), grader, and excavator. 

Requirements:

• Level I ($26.50 to $28.97 per hour) 
  
  
  
  1. Highschool Diploma or equivalent;
  
  
  2. Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with Q-Brake Endorsement;
  
  
  3. Clean Driver’s Abstract;
  
  
  4. Ability to operate or willingness to learn to operate equipment including single axle gravel trucks;
  
  
  5. Standard First Aid and CPR;
  
  
  6. Flag Person Certification;
  
  
  7. Fall Protection Certification preferred;
  
  
  8. Confined Space preferred;
  
  
  9. H2S Certification preferred;
  
  
  10. Ground Disturbance preferred; and,
  
  
  11. Good public relations, interpersonal and verbal communications skills.
  
  
  
   


• Level II ($28.97 to $31.72 per hour) 
  
  
  
  1. All requirements for Level I;
  
  
  2. Minimum of one (1) to two (2) years’ experience in Public Works or related field;
  
  
  3. Valid Class 3 Driver’s License with Q-Brake Endorsement;
  
  
  4. Equal Potential Grounding Certificate preferred; and,
  
  
  5. Knowledge of airport maintenance.
  
  
  
   


• Level III ($31.72 to $34.75 per hour) 
  
  
  
  1. All requirements for Level II;
  
  
  2. Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years’ experience in Public Works or related field;
  
  
  3. Work Zone Safety Training;
  
  
  4. Confined Space Certificate;
  
  
  5. Ground Disturbance Certificate;
  
  
  6. Fall Protection Certificate;
  
  
  7. Safe Trenching an asset;
  
  
  8. Excavating Certificate preferred; and,
  
  
  9. Ability to operate all of the following equipment skillfully and competently unsupervised:
     
     
     
     1. Garbage Truck
     
     
     2. Rubber Tire Backhoe (front and back)
     
     
     3. VAC Truck
     
     
     4. Street Sweeper
     
     
     5. Grader
     
     
     6. Excavator
     
     
     7. Lift Truck
     
     
     
     
  
  
  
  

 Compensation & Benefits:

• The City of Brooks offers a competitive salary and benefits package with this position falling within the scope of the Collective Agreement between the City of Brooks and the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 1032.
  


• The 2026 salary range for this position is $26.50 to $34.75 per hour depending on qualifications and experience. Regular working hours are Monday to Friday, from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm. This position may include shift work in the evenings, weekends, standby rotations, and overtime as required. The Collective Agreement including wages can be found online at www.brooks.ca.
