Responsibilities

This employment opportunity is restricted to Nunavut Inuit who reside in Rankin Inlet only.

Reporting to the Director Supply Chain Management, the Purchasing Officer plans, coordinates and executes the procurement of materials and supplies for the Department of Health. The position ensures that all procedures, practices, and policies related to procurement comply with Transportation and Infrastructure Nunavut Procurement and Government of Nunavut regulations, directives, financial accounting, and procedures.

The Purchasing Officer acts as the primary regional contact with TIN Procurement and consults with various users to ensure that the region’s needs are met, and best values obtained. The position works with TIN Procurement to ensure timely processing, appropriate selection, and delivery of products in order to minimize financial and physical loss. The Purchasing Officer also communicates with the ordering division to verify that goods have been received and coordinates with the Department of Finance to ensure that invoices are paid in a timely way to prevent disruption of services. Other duties may include organizing and conducting the purchasing of high-volume commodities in support of programs and working with Director of Health Program to develop ordering schedules for health centers while understanding and responding to urgent requests. 



Qualifications

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a high school diploma, or equivalent, along with two (2) years of supply chain management experience. This is a Position of Trust, and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check is required.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land,Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets. 

Acceptable combinations of education and experience may be considered for this position. We encourage you to apply if you have equivalent years of education and/or experience equal to the education and experience requirements listed above.

As this is a term position until July 16, 2027, current indeterminate Government of Nunavut employees may be offered a competitive transfer assignment for the duration of the term if they are deemed to be the successful candidate, however this is subject to managerial approval.
