We are currently looking for Technical Team Members to join our 2025-26 team! You will be placed on one of the sub-teams listed below based on your interests.
Requirements:
Applicants should have an interest in the design, fabrication, and programming of robots.
Expected time commitment of 4 hours per week.
An eagerness to learn and develop technical skills.
Experience with programming and CAD will be considered an asset, but is not mandatory.
Mechanical Design
Responsibilities:
3D modelling of all our competition robots
Decision-making for how our robots will function
Procurement and selection of mechanical parts
Members will gain experience in:
Design and Manufacturing
CAD Design and Modelling
The Iterative Design Process
Computer Vision
Responsibilities:
Developing an Object Detection Algorithm
Researching Machine Learning Methods
Integrating the algorithm with the Auto Aim team
Members will gain experience in:
Programming in C++ and/or Python
Artificial Intelligence Models
Data Collection and Training
Auto Aim
Responsibilities:
Controlling the motion of the turret
Programming autonomous controls for an aim and fire system
Integrating Auto Aim with computer vision co-processing outputs
Members will gain experience in:
Programming in C++
PID Controls
Perception and Projectile Motion
Auto Nav
Responsibilities:
Implement autonomous navigation and path planning
Integrate ROS2 packages for perception and localization
Test and validate robots' autonomous driving capabilities
Members will gain experience in:
Programming using ROS2
Localization Algorithms
Navigation and Path Planning
Controls
Responsibilities:
Developing robotic control systems
Implementing omnidirectional navigation and gimbal control
Embedded development with sensors and actuators
Members will gain experience in:
Programming in C++
Microcontrollers and Actuation
Embedded Systems
Electrical Team
Responsibilities:
Designing safe and easy-to-use power and signal connections.
Development and testing of a Supercapacitor Module. (analogous to a rechargeable nitro boost for a car)
Designing and implementing safety systems for higher-power circuits.
Members will gain experience in:
Circuit analysis and design with power electronics.
PCB design using CAD.
Circuit simulation software.
Microcontroller programming and the UART data protocol.
Robot Academy
Responsibilities:
Acquire the foundational knowledge in anticipation of actively participating in the following semester/year.
Learn about the competition, the robots, and the parts of the robot.
Complete mini projects to consolidate skills learnt.
Ask lots of questions.
Members will gain experience in:
Programming in C++
CAD Design and Modelling
Using microcontrollers
The engineering design process
