The Mustard Seed is seeking a Recovery Employment Coach.

The Recovery Employment Coach plays a crucial role in supporting Mustard Seed clients on their recovery journey. Through resume building, job search guidance, interview preparation, and facilitating connections with employers and other partners, the Coach helps individuals find and sustain meaningful employment. This position requires close collaboration with the Recovery Team, Employment Team, external agencies, employers, and various departments within The Mustard Seed. Together, the team aims to break the stigmas associated with homelessness while empowering clients to achieve their employment goals. In addition, this role frequently handles crisis intervention and conflict resolution, addressing these situations with expertise and sensitivity.

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00AM to 4:00PM

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

EMPLOYMENT (50%):

  • Successfully guide and empower clients and guests along the continuum of sustainable employment, displaying a keen understanding of the impact of addiction on individuals' work prospects.
  • Support clients in accessing an online employment readiness program.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with community members and employers to secure suitable short-term or long-term placements for clients in recovery.
  • Facilitate engaging and informative group sessions to foster client learning and active participation.
  • Conduct thorough intakes and assessments with clients, identifying their specific issues and barriers to employment.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of all guest interactions and track their progress.
  • Foster collaborative relationships with other Mustard Seed program areas, external agencies, and refer guests to their assigned case managers as required.
  • Take responsibility for achieving monthly Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and meeting performance goals.
  • Effectively leverage volunteers to assist clients in attaining their employment objectives.
  • Provide support and crisis intervention to both guests and employers as necessary.

SUPPORT WORK (50%):

  • Connect with clients on an on-going basis to assist in securing permanent, long-term housing, including advocating on behalf of clients to landlords.
  • Build rapport with clients to support achievement of goals identified in their goal plans.
  • Assist in wellness checks and security rounds; provide first aid as needed.
  • Bring forward identified client risks or issues to supervisor and colleagues to identify action plan.
  • Support Property Management, Advocates, and Clinicians as needed.
  • Host events contributing to the development and implementation of new groups.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Degree/Diploma in Human Services field or relevant discipline.
  • 2 years related work experience preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge in Microsoft Office Programs (i.e., Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.).
  • Excellent organization and time management skills.
  • A self-starter with the ability to work in a cross-functional team.
  • Ability to accomplish goals with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have a reliable vehicle with a minimum of $2,000,000 liability insurance (mileage reimbursement) and a Valid Driver’s License (Class 5).

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • As The Mustard Seed is a Christian ministry, we require our employees sign an agreement indicating that they will respect and not detract from our Statement of Faith.
  • Cell phone and laptop are provided to accommodate Employment work.
  • The working environment for this position requires moderate amounts of walking, climbing, standing, sitting, lifting, carrying, and daily interactions with colleagues and guests.
  • This position requires the training in usage of a two-way radio communications; MS Office based computer programming, as well as the HMIS database system, FDARP, FOIP, First aid, NVCI, and SafeTalk.
  • Fast paced and demanding work environment.
  • Moderate to extreme mental effort required to respond to highly intense situations.
  • Employees are to be aware that many of our clients may experience difficulties or impairment at times, which could result in them uttering threats, discriminatory statements, and other insults at your person. This may in a raised voice, or in seeing unpredictable behaviour up to and including the possibility of them becoming aggressive.
    • Training on how to respond is provided, but this is to be considered typical working conditions. Many of our clients are unaware of the impact of these comments.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • An Employment Background Check is required for all positions at The Mustard Seed
  • As The Mustard Seed is a Christian ministry, we require our employees to agree to respect and not detract from The Mustard Seed’s Employment Values during their employment at The Mustard Seed.
  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer

This position requires the use of a personal vehicle for company use. The candidate must have a valid driver’s licence and maintain $2M Vehicle Liability insurance on the vehicle being used.
