Job Summary


Reporting to the Manager of Health Services, the Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) is a key member of a multidisciplinary team providing high-quality care to clients with complex respiratory needs through the Complex Respiratory Care Program (CRC). This role involves conducting outreach, including home visits across the Champlain Region, and requires a strong background in home mechanical ventilation and airway management. The RRT is responsible for performing comprehensive respiratory assessments, providing education to clients and caregivers, and supporting staff within the circle of care.


The RRT provides leadership in client-centered care by adhering to professional standards and applying current respiratory guidelines. They assess learning needs and plan, implement, and evaluate education activities and programs within the CRC program. The RRT is also responsible for client and caregiver training through on-site education in various settings, including clients’ homes, hospitals (assisting with discharge back into the community), and community agencies.


A key aspect of this role involves establishing and maintaining strong communication pathways between clients, physicians, specialists, hospitals, and other community partners. The RRT operates within an enhanced scope of practice and applies RT-led protocols and medical directives to develop and optimize treatment plans for clients.


Requirements


 


Education:


·         Diploma from an accredited Respiratory Therapy Program


·         Current General Certificate of Registration with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario


·         Valid professional liability insurance


·         Current CPR Level C certification


·         Certified Respiratory Educator (CRE) designation (preferred)


 


Key Competencies:


·         Minimum 2 years of clinical experience


·         Minimum 2 years of critical care experience


·         Knowledge of relevant legislation, including:


        Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA)


                     Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA)


        Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)


        Infection Prevention and Control Measures (IPAC)


·         Understanding of primary health care and the social determinants of health


·         Experience with home mechanical ventilation in adult populations and familiarity with home mechanical ventilation guidelines


·         Expertise in airway clearance techniques and strong airway management skills


·         Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with an interdisciplinary team


·         Ability to liaise with external partners and advocate for clients


·         Ability to facilitate individual and group training sessions


 


Personal Suitability/Other Requirements:


·         Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills


·         Ability to work independently with minimal supervision


·         Successful criminal reference check


·         Comfortable working in a busy environment with multiple demands


·         Proficiency in computers, various software applications, and electronic medical record systems


·         Flexibility to travel, including occasional overnight stays as required


·         Valid driver’s license and use of a personal vehicle (mileage reimbursement provided)


 


Language Capability:


·         English (required)


·         Other languages an asset
