Job Description - Regulatory Affairs Specialist

Our client in the Greater Toronto area is searching for a Regulatory Affairs Specialist. Reporting to the R&D Director, the Regulatory Affairs Specialist ensures effective implementation and management of the regulatory affairs systems, programs, and procedures for the business. Working closely with the team to bring the project from bench through all the processes to full scale up and production in a state-of-the-art facility.


Working with a newly created team within a high growth organization and category, this is a very fast paced environment with exposure to a range of products.


You'll advise and provide regulatory guidance to internal business units on new product innovation, regulatory interpretation, claim validation and the promotion of nutritional attributes. You'll also help to coordinate the activities of the product development team and liaise closely with other departments as required.


RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Developing and maintaining accurate food labelling information for finished products (e.g., allergens, nutrition, ingredient statements, product name, claims) to assure compliance with regulations.

  • Communicating and providing advice on industry regulations and amendments.

  • Monitoring and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of current regulations, food labelling regulatory activity, and relevant technical product and processing information.

  • Developing the copy deck template for artwork, reviewing artwork for regulatory compliance, and approving packaging.

  • Participating in Front-of-Pack labelling evaluation, analysis, and all requirements for execution.

  • Participating in meetings to coordinate product launch deadlines, packaging material approval and final product specs.

  • Responding to technical questions from suppliers and stores. Provide answers to labeling compliance-related questions.

  • Providing critical review of promotional material to ensure compliance with federal and provincial regulations.

  • Participating in developing and updating appropriate food labeling policies and procedures as needed.

  • Creating or update PIMs (product information management system) as needed.

  • Managing the active list of Gluten-Free, Kosher and Vegetarian products.

  • Supporting the Finance team in performing additional tasks as required.

  • Performing other duties as required.


DESIRED PROFILE:



  • Degree/diploma in Food Safety, Food Science, or related field

  • Minimum of 3 years working in a food regulatory affairs role.

  • Manufacturing experience is required.

  • Proficiency in MS Suite

  • Ability to work in fast-paced, multi-tasking environment.

  • Strong communication skills: ability to communicate information clearly.

  • Ability to work collaboratively as a team.

  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.

  • Attention to detail, fast learner, and quick thinker.
