Field Training Officer (FTO) Program


Expression of Interest (EOI) – Internal Posting


Department: Operations


Reports to: Respective RSS and FTO related issues the Field Training Leadership Team



Associated Ambulance is excited to officially launch our new Field Training Officer (FTO) Program. This initiative represents a meaningful step forward in strengthening how we onboard, mentor, and support new employees in the field. Our goal is to create a consistent, structured, and supportive training experience across all stations and divisions.


We are inviting Expressions of Interest from permanent full-time employees who are interested in stepping into a leadership and mentorship role. This program is an opportunity to help shape the future of our organization while supporting the next generation of EMS professionals.

Training Commitment


Successful applicants will be required to:



  • In-person training:  March 18, 19 , 20, 2026  (subject to change) 

  • Attend one full 8 hour in-person training day in Acheson

  • Complete required online pre-learning modules prior to attending



Eligibility Requirements


To be considered, applicants must:



  • Be a permanent full-time employee (any designation)

  • Have a minimum of two (2) years full-time service (preferred)

  • Hold current, unrestricted registration with the Alberta College of Paramedics

  • Demonstrate a consistent history of professionalism and strong performance

  • Have the support of their Zone RSS or Manager (leadership will be consulted)



Qualifications & Skills


The ideal candidate will demonstrate:



  • Clinical excellence and high professional standards

  • Strong communication and mentorship abilities

  • Familiarity with organizational protocols, documentation standards, policies, and safety principles

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office™ and Siren (ePCR)

  • Ability to provide and receive constructive feedback

  • Knowledge of adult learning principles and field instruction techniques (considered an asset)



Role Responsibilities


The FTO role carries responsibilities beyond your current designation and code of conduct expectations. As an FTO, you will:



  • Provide on-the-job coaching and mentorship to new hires and employees undergoing a change in designation

  • Support orientation and return-to-work processes by reinforcing clinical and operational expectations

  • Deliver real-time and post-call feedback following patient encounters

  • Complete structured evaluations and communicate observations clearly

  • Facilitate case-based debriefings and encourage reflective learning

  • Review patient care reports for quality, accuracy, and completeness, supporting documentation improvement

  • Collaborate with Regional Support Supervisors and Clinical Educators to identify learning needs and monitor trainee progress

  • Model and promote Associated Ambulance’s core values: Safety, Quality, Just Culture, and Continuous Learning

  • Attend ongoing FTO training and calibration sessions to ensure program consistency

  • Maintain all required organizational training and certifications

  • Escalate significant clinical concerns to Clinical Educators or Quality Assurance as appropriate

More about the Opportunity


As a Field Training Officer, you will work directly with new employees during their orientation period on ambulance. This is a hands-on leadership role where you will mentor, guide, evaluate, and support staff as they transition to independent practice within our organization.


You will play a key role in setting expectations around patient care, professionalism, documentation, and teamwork. The impact of this role extends beyond individual trainees , it helps shape our culture, consistency, and future workforce.


We are looking for experienced paramedics who lead by example, communicate clearly, and genuinely enjoy helping others grow.


Our goal is to build a strong, connected network of FTOs across all stations to ensure every new team member receives high-quality, consistent guidance, no matter where they begin their career with Associated Ambulance.
