Family Lawyer -Ottawa

Our client is an established Ontario law firm seeking an experienced Family Lawyer to help build and grow its presence in Ottawa. This opportunity is ideal for a lawyer who enjoys working independently and managing their own files but wants the infrastructure, resources and stability of an established firm behind them.

The position will be predominantly remote and may be fully remote for the right candidate. Our client currently has a small satellite office in Ottawa that can be used occasionally when required or when the lawyer wishes to work from the office.

Key Responsibilities

• Independently manage family-law files from the initial consultation through resolution.

• Advise and represent clients in separation and divorce matters.

• Handle parenting, decision-making responsibility and parenting-time disputes.

• Manage child-support, spousal-support, property-division and equalization matters.

• Address financial disclosure and income-determination issues.

• Draft and negotiate Separation Agreements, Marriage Contracts and Cohabitation Agreements.

• Prepare pleadings, Financial Statements, affidavits, conference briefs, motion materials and settlement documentation.

• Represent clients at negotiations, mediations, conferences, motions and trials, as appropriate.

• Communicate directly with clients and take responsibility for file strategy, deadlines and client service.

• Help strengthen and grow the firm’s family-law presence in the Ottawa market.

Qualifications

• Licensed and in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.

• Several years of family-law experience.

• Able to manage a family-law caseload independently with limited day-to-day supervision.

• Strong legal drafting, negotiation, advocacy and client-management skills.

• Sound knowledge of Ontario family law, court procedures and the Family Law Rules.

• Highly organized, self-directed and comfortable working predominantly remotely.

• Genuinely interested in joining and contributing to a growing regional practice.

Work Environment

• Predominantly remote, with the possibility of a fully remote arrangement.

• Occasional access to the firm’s small Ottawa satellite office.

• Access to law-clerk, administrative and billing support.

• Established technology, systems, infrastructure and firm resources.
