Responsibilities
The Mechanical Engineer will work under the guidance of senior engineers while taking increasing ownership of technical work and project delivery.
Support the development of project scopes, budgets, and design approaches for HVAC retrofits.
Conduct building energy assessments and contribute to engineering feasibility studies.
Develop conceptual designs, calculations, and input to business cases and client reports.
Carry out detailed mechanical building systems engineering including troubleshooting, calculations, equipment selection, drawings, and specifications.
Prepare technical documentation packages for external coordination, budgetary pricing, and tender
Execute construction administration activities including commissioning and project closeout.
Coordinate with internal team members and external trade allies (consultants, contractors)
Support the development and refinement of internal tools, standards, and templates
Deliver assigned tasks on time and within budget
Qualifications – Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline.
Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or eligible for immediate registration with EGBC.
Experience in mechanical engineering for multifamily and/or commercial buildings.
5+ years of relevant experience, preferably in BC.
Experience delivering building assessments and studies.
Working knowledge of the BC Building Code, Vancouver Building Bylaws, ASHRAE engineering & energy efficiency standards, and Canadian life-safety regulations.
Strong proficiency with MS Office (especially Excel).
Strong proficiency with AutoCAD.
Good English written and verbal communication skills.
Valid Class 5 BC driver’s license.
Assets (Nice to Have)
Exposure to project coordination and task-level deadline and budget management.
Proficiency with Trace3D, IESVE, or other energy modelling and HVAC load calculation software.
Familiarity with heat pumps and hybrid mechanical system solutions.
Experience with cooling solutions for residential and commercial buildings.
Exposure to DDC building automation systems and BACnet protocol.
Interest in developing client-facing and business development.
