This role requires full time on site presence. 

Your role

CBC Nova Scotia is looking for a Reporter / Editor based in Halifax who will be assigned to weekday and weekend reporting. Keeping with corporate standards and policies, the Reporter/Editor will have a strong journalistic track record and will research and pitch stories and write, produce and present interesting and informative content for audiences. The successful candidate will generate material for radio, online and TV and will have experience with compelling video storytelling, making sure to include voices and perspectives from the many communities in our listening area.

All work will be governed by CBC Journalistic Standards and Practices.

Please note that this is a full time temporary position until December 2025.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Knowledge and experience of digital storytelling. 

  • An inclusive thinker, able to work independently and as part of a team to bring the best to the audience. 

  • Interviewing skills that demonstrate a curious mind and ability to listen.

  • Experience in booking interview guests, developing lines of questioning, writing focused introductions and preparing and writing tape segments.

  • Demonstrated technical ability. 

  • Ability to travel within Nova Scotia on assignment. 

  • Ability to work flexible hours and overtime, including very early mornings and regular weekends. 

  • Strong presentation skills for broadcast. You are comfortable reporting live.

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or a related field and/or demonstrated lived experience 

  • Must possess a valid driver’s licence as well as a driving record that meets the minimum requirements of CBC/Radio-Canada's insurance company.

  • Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.
