We are currently seeking a Requirements Engineering Specialist to join our Ottawa based team who will lead the definition, management, and traceability of system and subsystem requirements and convert mission needs into clear, testable engineering requirements that support safe, certifiable, and high‑performance systems!
What will you be doing?
You will work closely with product, engineering, testing and manufacturing teams to ensure that customer, regulatory, and internal requirements are clearly defined, verifiable, and implemented throughout the product lifecycle.
Elicit, analyze, and document system, and subsystem requirements (guidance, navigation, control, avionics, software, etc).
Translate customer, operational, and regulatory needs into clear, testable, and traceable requirements.
Maintain requirements traceability across the full V-model lifecycle, from concept through verification and validation.
Manage requirements using tools such as Jira, ReqView, DOORS, Polarion, or similar.
Support system architecture trades and ensure requirements alignment with design decisions.
Participate in design reviews and support certification or customer acceptance activities.
Collaborate with MMIST’s engineering and operations teams to capture feedback and refine requirements.
Identify and manage requirement changes, risks, and dependencies throughout development.
Define and support verification and validation (V&V) strategies, including test cases, analyses, inspections, and demonstrations.
What do we need from you?
Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
Strong experience in requirements engineering for complex technical systems. Ideally with experience in aerospace, defense, UAVs, or autonomous systems.
Experience working with embedded systems involving software, electronics, and mechanical components ideally with safety-critical or mission-critical systems.
Strong understanding of systems engineering processes and lifecycle models (e.g., V-model).
Ability to write clear, concise, and testable requirements.
Familiarity with requirements management and traceability tools.
Knowledge of GNSS, IMUs, control systems would be an asset
Familiarity with standards such as DO-178, DO-254, ARP4754, MIL-STD-499 would also be highly desirable
