Job Description - SDG Historic Jail Coordinator (Temporary)

The SDG Historic Jail Coordinator will be responsible for uncovering and sharing compelling history of the jail to create engaging and interactive programs and events for diverse audiences. The role involves updating marketing materials and displays, expanding tour offerings, and developing unique events that highlight the jail’s rich history. The coordinator will play a key role in increasing public engagement and preserving the legacy of the SDG Jail.


 


Main duties include but are not limited to:



  • Develops, promotes and administers Historic SDG Jail programs to visitors considering multi-generational and diverse audiences.

  • Communicates and collaborates with external agencies including but not limited to museums, school boards and community groups on jail initiatives and program offerings.

  • Leads, promotes, books and delivers Jail tours and activities.

  • Promotes the Jail at community events and delivers outreach programs to organizations and groups.

  • Conducts research and prepares interpretive and program support materials.

  • Delivery of program material and information using varied and creative teaching methods and techniques.

  • Makes recommendations and assists with creation and development of activities and programs.

  • Administers the general reception and visitor services component of the Jail operations including cash collection and end of day reconciliation, as required.

  • Oversees program record keeping and statistical information for program.

  • Assists in the management of on-line media content in collaboration with the Tourism Coordinator.

  • Ensures the safety of program participants, visitors, and staff as well as protection of on-site resources.

  • Practices health and safety principles when performing duties.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:



  • Post-secondary education in a related field of study with an emphasis on community engagement

  • Event Planning experience

  • Good working knowledge of the Ontario elementary/secondary education curriculum relevant to the heritage field would be considered an asset

  • Strong interpersonal skills to motivate and foster community engagement and increase visitation to the Jail

  • Demonstrates creativity, initiative, organization, and effective problem solving

  • Proficiency in written, presentation, and oral communication and the ability to adapt communication style to a diverse audience

  • Capable of performing the physical demands of this position including ability to perform light lifting for program set-up

  • Experience handling cash, performing cash reconciliation and operating a cash register

  • Ability to provide a current satisfactory Criminal Record Check.

Compensation:  $26.09 per hour


Schedule: 20 hours per week


Term: Commencing April 2025 for an approximate 36-week term
