Job Description - Section Head

Are you interested in a new and exciting opportunity? We are looking for a Section Head to be accountable for construction and installation activities on assigned projects as well as various site construction initiatives. Does the idea of interfacing with contractors and CNL clients to provide field oversight, knowledgeable expertise and consistent/cost-effective services appeal to you? What you will be doing!
  • Prioritize and assign CS resources to projects according to individual skill sets and capacity.
  • Provide review and comment on all project documents to ensure the construction process is being followed.
  • Assist with identifying training needs specific to project assignments.
  • Provide recommendations and feedback to the Construction Process self-assessment as required.
  • Ensure Observation and Coaching requirements are being met.
  • Responsibility 2 c: Ensure all incidents and/or conflicts are elevated/communicated to the appropriate person(s) in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Provide mentoring and coaching to Construction Superintendents as required.
  • Provide input into performance reviews for all Construction Superintendents.
  • Supervise and direct the activities of the Construction Superintendents, including the provision of day-to-day direction, guidance and support.
  • Assist with hiring as required.
  • Act as delegate for the Construction Operations Manager as required.
  • Ensure effective communication of all project updates and progress to the Management Team.
  • Provide technical expertise and feedback on construction management procedures as requested
What we are looking for:
  • Graduation from an Institute of Technology with a minimum of six years’ experience in the field of construction, including five years as a supervisor (or equivalent leadership position)
  • Successful completion of a recognized apprenticeship in one or more relevant industrial trades and a minimum of one year applicable experience as a journeyman in that trade, plus five years’ experience as a supervisor (or equivalent leadership position).
  • Must have worked in a Superintendent capacity (or similar position) for a minimum of 2 years and demonstrate understanding of the demands of the role, the intricacies of various project cycles and the regulatory and compliance requirements that are unique to construction activities.
  • Demonstrate the ability to read and interpret construction documents, technical specifications, contract condition documents and working drawings.
  • Have experience in the Building, Mechanical or Electrical trades.
  • Demonstrated supervisory and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrate good conflict resolution skills and the ability to collaborate
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of applicable CNL processes/procedures, safety regulations and collective agreements would be considered an asset
  • Have a willingness to undergo additional training appropriate to the position (e.g., software applications, quality assurance, applicable codes, supervisory and team building skills)
  • Have high standards regarding safety and good housekeeping practices
  • Provide advice and mentoring to peers and other Project Staff
  • Effective problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the National Building Code, Canada Labour Code, Canadian Electrical Code and Ontario OHS Act &Regulations for Construction Projects, and other regulations applicable to life safety (e.g., Asbestos, Lead, etc)
Security clearance eligibility required: Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, United States and/or the United Kingdom.

Location of Work - On-Site
  • This role is based out of CNL’s Chalk River, which will be the designated workplace. CNL may require travel from time to time, as necessary.
