Job Description - Security Assistant Supervisor - City of Kelowna
Commissionaires BC is looking for a Security 2IC (Assistant Supervisor) to join our team working with the City of Kelowna!
As a Security Guard with Commissionaires BC in Kelowna, you will be responsible for maintaining the safety and security of City of Kelowna properties, facilities, and assets. This role involves patrolling assigned areas, monitoring security systems, and responding to incidents to ensure a safe environment for employees, visitors, and the public.
Schedule: Sunday to Thursday 4pm till 12am (Midnight) Payrate: $26.50 Start date: October 9, 2025
Key Responsibilities:
Patrolling: Conduct substantial foot and vehicle patrols of assigned areas, including buildings, parking lots, and public spaces, to deter and detect security threats or breaches.
Monitoring: Operate and monitor security systems, including surveillance cameras, alarms, and access control systems.
Body Cameras: Follow and comply to all policies and procedures in relation to wearing a body camera for the duration of the shift.
Engagement with Public: Interact with various members of the public, offering support and direction as requiredwith empathy and respect. Assess the situation and any concerns related to vagrants or unauthorized individuals on properties by enforcing policies calmly and professionally. Ensure that all interactions are handled in accordance with relevant laws and guidelines.
De-Escalation and Incident Management: Utilize effective de-escalation techniques to manage and resolve conflicts or aggressive behavior. Approach individuals calmly, listen actively, and employ strategies to reduce tension and prevent escalation. Ensure incidents are documented accurately and reported to the appropriate authorities.
Reporting: Document and report security incidents, irregularities, and daily activities accurately. Prepare incident reports and maintain logbooks.
Customer Service: Assist and provide information and support to clients and members of the public in a professional and courteous manner.
Compliance: Adhere to Commissionaires BC’s policies, procedures, and local regulations. Ensure that security and safety practices are followed at all times.
Supervision/Leadership: Assist in managing and supervising security staff, including scheduling shifts, monitoring performance, and providing guidance and coaching. Support in preparation of timesheets and performance reviews.
Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required. Additional training or certification in security, law enforcement, or related fields is advantageous.
Experience: Previous experience in security or a related field, preferably in a supervisor or leadership position.
Skills: Strong observational skills, excellent communication, and the ability to manage stressful situations effectively.
Certifications: A valid security license, Class 5 Drivers Licence and AST (or willingness to get)
Work Conditions:
Schedule Flexibility: You may be required to support other shifts/positions as per the requirements of the site.
Environment: Duties will involve working in various weather conditions and environments, both indoors and outdoors.
Physical Requirements: Ability to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods. Must be capable of lifting and carrying equipment as needed.
