Pay Rate: $19.19 – $21.58/hour

Hours: Rotating Continental Shifts (0800–2000 / 2000–0800)

Southlake Regional Health Centre (formerly York Regional Hospital) is a full-service hospital serving over 1 million residents of York Region, Simcoe County, and Muskoka. With its university affiliation, Southlake is a teaching and research facility providing advanced cardiac, cancer, and thoracic care, along with mental health services and emergency care.

Position Summary

We are seeking highly professional Security Guards to join the Southlake Regional Hospital team. This role requires strong interpersonal skills, a high degree of professionalism, and the ability to work under pressure while ensuring the safety of patients, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide proactive and reactive patrols and respond to incidents within hospital units, including the mental health ward.
• Monitor for and escalate security concerns in the Emergency Department.
• Respond quickly and effectively to coded hospital emergencies.
• Support and oversee patient watch guards in high-risk areas.
• Assist in developing and implementing security plans for high-risk patients.
• Work closely with law enforcement and emergency services when required.
• Deliver excellent customer service while working with vulnerable populations and individuals under stress.
• Utilize verbal de-escalation and conflict resolution techniques.
• Write clear, concise, and accurate reports; maintain incident records.
• Ensure safety and security of patients, staff, and visitors throughout the hospital.

Requirements (Must-Haves)

• Valid Ontario Security Guard License
• Standard First Aid & CPR Level C certification
• Use of Force certification
• Management of Aggressive Behaviour (MOAB) certification
• Minimum 1 year of security experience
• Immunization record for MMRV (Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella) and two-step TB test
• Fully COVID-19 vaccinated
• Must be legally authorized to work in Canada
• Physically fit: able to stand/walk for long periods and respond quickly to emergencies

• Strong conflict de-escalation and communication skills
• Experience in healthcare, hospital, or high-stress security environments
• Ability to remain professional and calm in urgent/emergency situations
• Strong interpersonal skills across diverse social and cultural groups
• Report writing and clear documentation skills
