TPM is seeking reliable, responsible, and community-minded individuals to join our team as Security Officers at the new Transitional Home in Edzo.

Position Summary

The Security Officer will play an important role in maintaining a safe, respectful, welcoming, and secure environment for residents, visitors, staff, and service providers at the Transitional Home.

This role combines security, reception, visitor access, resident support, incident response, and reporting responsibilities. The successful candidate will be professional, calm, observant, dependable, and comfortable working independently while interacting respectfully with residents and visitors.

The Security Officer will be expected to use sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and respond appropriately to situations that may require de-escalation or additional support.

Tłı̨chǫ Community Services Agency (TCSA) will provide the operating guidelines, emergency contacts, escalation procedures, and designated reporting contacts that apply to the Transitional Home. The Security Officer will be expected to become familiar with and follow these guidelines and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

Reception & Access Control

• Provide reception and front-desk coverage during assigned shifts.


• Monitor and control access to the Transitional Home in accordance with established procedures.


• Greet and communicate professionally with residents, visitors, staff, contractors, service providers, and other authorized individuals.


• Verify and manage visitor access as required.


• Monitor entrances, common areas, and other designated areas of the facility.


• Maintain awareness of who is entering and leaving the facility and identify unauthorized access or other concerns.

Resident Support & De-escalation

• Interact with residents in a respectful, professional, and non-judgmental manner.


• Support a safe and welcoming environment for residents.


• Respond calmly and appropriately to challenging situations, conflicts, or behavioural concerns.


• Apply appropriate de-escalation techniques and seek assistance or escalate situations when required.


• Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and confidentiality when interacting with residents.


• Follow established procedures when a resident or situation requires additional support or intervention.

Security & Safety

• Monitor CCTV and other security systems where applicable.


• Conduct security checks and patrols of designated areas as required.


• Remain alert to safety, security, property, or environmental concerns.


• Identify and report suspicious activity, unauthorized access, property damage, hazards, or other concerns.


• Respond appropriately to security, safety, medical, or other incidents within the scope of the role.


• Contact emergency services or designated contacts when required.


• Follow all established security, safety, emergency, and escalation procedures.

Incident Reporting & Communication

• Complete accurate and timely incident reports, shift reports, visitor records, and other required documentation.


• Document incidents, concerns, and actions taken in accordance with established reporting requirements.


• Communicate relevant information to designated contacts at shift change or when escalation is required.


• Maintain confidentiality of resident, visitor, operational, and incident information.


• Follow TCSA's established reporting and escalation procedures.

Other Duties

• Maintain a professional, clean, and organized reception/security area.


• Work collaboratively with TPM, TCSA, and other designated personnel.


• Attend required training and maintain required certifications.


• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Clear criminal record – applicants must provide confirmed criminal record check or fingerprint results as required.


• Valid Class 5 driver's licence is required.


• Previous security, reception, customer service, community support, residential support, or related experience is considered an asset.


• Strong communication, interpersonal, and listening skills.


• Strong observation and situational awareness.


• Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging or high-pressure situations.


• Demonstrated ability to communicate respectfully and effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and circumstances.


• Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain appropriate confidentiality and professional boundaries.


• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.


• Reliable, punctual, dependable, and professional.


• Ability to complete written documentation and incident reports accurately.


• Ability to work overnight and/or weekend shifts, depending on the position.

Required Training

Successful candidates will be required to complete Security Monitor training, including:

• 3 days of Security Monitor Training


• 2 days of BRAVE (Best Response Aggression & Violence Education) training

Training will be provided as part of the onboarding process, and employees must successfully complete the required training before or as a condition of performing the full duties of the position.

Additional training may be required based on the operational requirements of the Transitional Home.

Working Conditions

These are permanent full-time and permanent part-time positions based at the new Transitional Home in Edzo.

The work will primarily involve providing overnight and/or weekend coverage, depending on the position. The role requires regular interaction with residents, visitors, staff, and service providers.

The position may involve extended periods of sitting or standing, monitoring CCTV and access points, walking throughout the facility, responding to incidents, and completing written reports and documentation.

Security Officers must be prepared to work independently and remain attentive throughout their assigned shift.
