The Opportunity:

 We are recruiting for a Self Help Facilitator

• This is a contract full-time position to fill an existing vacancy until August 31, 2026 (35 hours a week Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm) based at 80 Waterloo Ave, Guelph and 9 Wellington St, Cambridge.

Self Help & Peer Support is a peer support service that specifically focuses on providing information, referral, peer support and recovery skill groups, and a Self Help Recovery Centre. The purpose of this position is to effectively represent Self Help & Peer Support in the community and to its participants and take responsibility for hosting, coordinating and facilitating a variety of services and activities at Self Help sites. This Self Help Facilitator position will create and deliver a variety of peer support and recovery skills groups at Self Help’s walk-in peer support site; schedule and maintain Recovery Centre services in coordination with other Self Help staff; provide 1:1 peer support to individuals accessing Self Help services; and recruit, support, and train a team of volunteer group facilitators. This position reports to the Manager of Self Help & Peer Support.

Qualifications:

• Personal lived/living experience with substance use challenges and recovery and a willingness to use lived experience in a peer support role.


• Minimum of one years’ experience providing peer support in a paid or volunteer role and an additional one years’ experience working in an addiction or mental health setting or related occupation such as community, social service worker or equivalent experience


• Bachelor’s degree or a 2 year college diploma in a social science or health-related discipline


• Demonstrated understanding of recovery values, knowledge of peer support practices, trauma-informed practice, and harm reduction theory and practices


• Experience in group facilitation skills and group development


• Peer Support Canada Certification, or a willingness to obtain

• A valid driver’s license, vehicle and insurance, as travel is required

CLASSIFICATION AND RATE OF PAY:  Level 4 (OPSEU) - $29.29 to $35.56 per hour
