Job Description - Senior Accountant

About Niche:


Niche Technology designs, develops, supports, and implements an advanced police Records Management System (RMS). Our current offering, NicheRMS, covers the full breadth of police operations as standard, out-of-the-box functionality that is available now and in live production use. It is a single, integrated operational police information management platform—all police data is organized into a single, accessible source with a set of core building blocks. This is our sole focus and line of business.


Niche Technology Inc. is a privately-owned Canadian corporation, established in 1992, that is owned and managed by its founders.


Niche has subsidiaries in the UK and the US serving projects in the UK, Canada, Australia, and the US.


Responsibilities & Duties:


Financial Management



  • Must be a self‑starter who is comfortable working independently and taking full ownership of the company’s financial responsibilities, including designing, and improving financial processes.

  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve innovative financial processes to streamline operations, increase efficiency, and support business growth.

  • Maintain and update financial records, including daily transactions, expenses, and revenue ensuring accuracy and timelines.

  • Handle billing and invoicing processes, ensure timely payment to vendors, and track outstanding receivables.

  • Reconcile bank statements with company accounts to ensure accuracy in financial records.

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.

  • Prepare financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.

  • Monitor and record company and employee expenses, ensuring all expenditures are properly authorized and documented including reconciliation of corporate credit cards.

  • Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and prevent fraud.

  • Assist with internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations.

  • Administration of the corporate credit card programs including review of report staff expense report submissions.


Payroll and Benefits



  • Calculate employee wages, deductions, employee benefits, and process payroll accurately and on time for both US and Canadian employees utilizing Dayforce payroll platforms.

  • Prepare and submit required tax documents and filings for both US and Canadian tax authorities.

  • Maintain accurate payroll records, including employee information, payroll calculations, and remittance confirmations.

  • Handling employee payroll adjustments based on banked time and expenses.

  • Use payroll software to manage payroll processes efficiently and accurately.

  • Benefits processing and payments.

  • Coordinate with Human Resources Administrator on benefit enrollment, terminations and assist with employee inquiries regarding plans across Canada and the United States.


Customer & Vendor Management



  • Generate invoices and send them to clients.

  • Monitor and follow up with overdue payments.

  • Process payments to suppliers and vendors.

  • Verify and reconcile vendor invoices with purchase orders and receipts.


Tax Compliance



  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, provincial, and local tax regulations and assist with preparation of timely tax filings globally.

  • Other duties as assigned. 


Qualifications and Requirements:



  • Must reside in Winnipeg or surrounding areas with ability to work a hybrid arrangement.

  • Minimum of 8 years’ accounting experience with some level of accounting education program.

  • Proactive, self‑motivated professional comfortable working autonomously and accountable for owning and shaping departmental processes.

  • Use of QuickBooks, exposure to Dayforce Powerpay and US Dayforce Redwood platforms helpful, and proficiency in EXCEL/WORD.

  • Capacity to apply discretion and maintain an elevated level of confidentiality when managing sensitive information.

  • People management responsibilities with a focus on providing leadership, direction, day-to-day scheduling and oversight of other potential finance and administrative staff. 

  • The successful candidate must be eligible for an RCMP Enhanced Reliability security clearance and may be required to achieve a higher security clearance in the future.
