Overview of the Role:


Reporting to the Senior Manager, Sales Administration, this role blends planning, analysis, business acumen, creative thinking, technology, data science, & managerial reporting.  The Senior Analyst provides support for decisions which require market insight, financial modeling and valuation, and cross-functional collaboration to create and capture value for WestJet by optimizing sales channels.


 


Key deliverables include:



  • Monitor the Sales department key performance indicators against targets, identifying revenue opportunities and cost of sales improvement. The Senior Analyst will contribute to in-depth forecasting and budgeting of sales channel bookings, flown revenue and sales incentive costs, and deliver comprehensive variance analysis

  • Collaborative work with internal Sales, Distribution, Revenue and Pricing departments with a focus on critical evaluation of incentive programs against stated goals and objectives

  • Perform cost of sales/ROI analysis, forecast and monitor stimulus performance against targets.

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of customized strategies and tactical incentives to gain market share, improve contract performance, address markets of needs and competitive pressures through proactive analysis using various analytics and incentive tools

  • Perform contribution margin analysis at all levels from distribution channel to portfolio and partner sales, identifying areas of opportunities

  • Contribute to preparation of executive reports (commercial business review) that identify trends and explain results effectively to senior management

  • Advocate continuous improvement process, which requires knowledge of WestJet products & processes, technical systems and capabilities

  • Maintain proactive and effective communication with internal stakeholders and external vendors and partners in a professional manner

  • Stay current with industry standards, market changes and competitive landscape


 


Experience and qualifications:



  • Completion of a postsecondary degree in Commerce or Business Administration.  A postgraduate degree/designation (e.g. CPA, MBA, CFA) would be considered an asset

  • 6+ years of professional experience in progressively complex financial analysis roles

  • Aviation industry, sales and distribution knowledge is considered an asset

  • Ability and desire to provide keen insight to business partners (both in functional and technical capabilities) to help drive meaning business decisions

  • Extensive experience with financial analysis and modelling, including sensitivity and scenario analysis

  • Experience with and ability to distill large data sets to determine relevant information needs

  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability of “big picture” thinking, the ability to look beyond immediate situations and understand the connections and potential outcomes and long-term impact of decisions

  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio), data analysis and visualization tools (Tableau, PowerBi, SQL)

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create clear, effective documentation and presentations for both technical and non-technical audiences at all levels of the organization

  • Excellent time management and organization skills with the ability to manage competing priorities with a strong attention to detail

  • Ability to handle pressure and meet tight timelines in an environment with a high volume of activity

  • Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality
