Senior Aquatic Worker - Salt Spring Island Aquatic

Summary

This position assists in the delivery of public aquatic programs and instruction. Employees are expected to be conversant with emergency procedures and able to respond accordingly. The incumbent is knowledgeable of the aquatic facility's rules and regulations while maintaining a cooperative and positive relationship with the public. This position acts as a team leader and requires sound communication and judgement as well as the ability to provide guidance and direction to staff. This position requires the ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Lifeguards and instructs as required.


• Assists with the organization of instructional swim programs for all age groups.


• Assists with orientation and training of aquatic staff.


• Provides guidance and direction to staff.


• Ensures facility policies, procedures and regulations are implemented.


• Assists with the delivery and maintenance of volunteer programs.


• Liaises with members of the public to create a positive and safe environment while ensuring rules and regulations are maintained.


• Maintains first aid and program supply inventories.


• Assists with the coordination and implementation of special events.


• Maintains routine administrative information.


• Performs routine pool water tests and records daily readings.


• Maintains pool chemistry as directed.


• Provides counter and phone reception services as needed


• Follows all policies, procedures and standards of the CRD


• Performs other related duties as required.

• Able to work flexible hours to meet operational needs, including weekends, days and evenings.

Key Skills & Abilities

• Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal and customer service skills.


• Basic knowledge of aquatics programming requirements.


• Strong MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook and SharePoint skills.


• Thorough knowledge and understanding of WorkSafeBC practices/protocols, Workers' Compensation Act and OHS Regulations and other relevant safety statutes.


• Strong organizational skills, including the ability to work under pressure, prioritize work and to set and meet deadlines.


• Strong ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships.


• Strong ability to work effectively in a team environment and individually with minimal supervision.


• Strong proficiency and experience with registration and booking software, PerfectMind preferred.

• Standard First Aid and CPR-C


• Water Safety Instructor


• Pool Operator Certificate Level 1


• Lifesaving Society Instructor


• National Lifeguard Certificate


• Aquatic Fitness Instructor Certification (BCRPA or equivalent) or willing to obtain


• Acceptable criminal record check. The applicant/incumbent is required to undergo a criminal record check to work in this position and to report to their supervisor if any criminal charges are laid against them that may be related to their employment.


• Valid BC Driver's Licence
