About the role:
 
Reporting to the Manager Tailings, the Senior Tailings Engineer is responsible for leading a team of tailings engineers who act as the primary site-based technical resources for operations, maintenance and surveillance of  Tailings and Water Retaining Structures (TWRS). This role focuses on optimizing allocation of tailings engineering resources across multiple sites, advising and assisting operational leadership to achieve TWRS objectives, and coordinating governance and stewardship needs with the TWRS leadership team, the QP/RTFEs and the EoRs.  This role may also fulfill on-site needs such as supervising field activities related to tailings systems.

In this role you will:

    • Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies
    • Mentor and guide a team of engineers in support of their professional development
    • Allocate adequate resources to implement the surveillance, inspection, monitoring, and maintenance plan (OMS) for TWRSs
    • Support updates to operating, maintenance, and surveillance manuals, along with emergency preparedness and response plans, and other management system documents
    • Support short-and long-range plans for tailings and water management facilities, including mass balances, tailings deposition plans, and water balances
    • Work in compliance with regulatory requirements, HSEC Standards, and relevant guidelines
    • Implement organizational change processes
    • Report on performance and connect with site leadership
    • Support project execution on site
    • Coordinate activities with Tailings Qualified Professional (QP/RTFE), Consultants, Project Engineering, Processing, Environmental, contractors, and Government Regulators as required
    • Develop budgets and track costs on tailings related activities

Requirements:

    • Degree in Civil, Geotechnical, Mining, or Geological Engineering, or equivalent
    • Minimum of eight years operational, construction, or design work experience in the mining industry, including experience with tailings storage facilities
    • Registered, or immediately eligible to register, as a Professional Engineer with the Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia
    • Experience working on project teams; leadership/supervisory experience is an asset
    • Understanding of tailings behavior, technologies, geotechnical investigation methods and analyses, soil mechanics, and surface and subsurface monitoring systems.
    • Experience working with external specialists, such as regulators and Engineers of Record, and familiar with tailings guidelines and regulations
    • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent
$120,000 - $149,000 a year
The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
