Job Description - Senior Forester

Description


A Senior Forester must be able to produce and supervise the production of accurate professional deliverables with particular attention to quality, time, and cost parameters, both independently and in a team environment. The Senior Forester must possess effective mentorship skills while leading by example in areas of reliability, organization, logic, and customer service, while being an effective communicator with colleagues and other professionals.


The applicant will have working knowledge of BC and Coastal Forest Legislation, experience writing, reviewing, and signing Site Plans, experience writing silviculture prescriptions, and experience managing a team of professionals.


Role Responsibilities:


· Collaborates, improves, and maintains Regional Quality Assurance and Quality Control through the utilization of existing policies and procedures, for example, SNRC’s QMS program and the applicable Regional QAQC program.


· Perform and/or audit, field and office work to professional standards, including compiling field data into useful reports and prescribing recommendations or treatments, as well as completing standard plans and prescriptions.


· Ensure a clear understanding of the project’s scope and standards that you may be supporting.


· Ensure complete, high-quality, timely, and accurate packaging of deliverable products to the specific standards of the project.


· Report on the status of completion of projects or on significant issues that may arise, and offer options to address


· Maintain and ensure a high degree of personal safety and safety for all.


· Participate and support SNRC’s OH&S Program by personally adhering to and enforcing safety standards (including Safe Work Practice & Standard Operating Procedures).


· Work in adverse weather conditions and steep, brushy terrain as required.


· Travel safely by truck, boat, ATV, float plane, and helicopter without issue.


· Maintain personal health and fitness in order to conduct fieldwork regularly and efficiently


Professional Engagement:


· Ensure compliance with all statutory safety and professional standards legislation.


· Ensure complete and accurate field data gathering by self and field teams as required.


· Ensure effective communication methods (radio, etc.) with crew, transportation providers, and others in the area.


Technical Leadership:


· Support cross-regionally as needed with technical skills, whether as a subject matter expert, professional resource in project, time, operations, or cost analysis


Training:


· Participate in the training and mentorship of coworkers, sharing work experience and improving their technical skills.


· Demonstrate and mentor a strong understanding of operational forestry and silviculture: silviculture systems, silviculture activities, harvest systems; visual quality objectives, archeological resources, retention, windthrow, and riparian management, etc.


 


Reports Relationships


Functionally Reports to: Operations Manager


 


Role Requirements


General Requirements:


· Knowledge and experience in BC Forestry


· An effective communicator


· Maintain professional image at work and within the company


· Maintain personal accountability for content and quality of work for self and team


· Class 5 driver’s license required


Qualifications:


· At least 10 years of demonstrated experience in the forest industry,


· Minimum of 5 years of experience in coastal site plans and silviculture surveys


· Project management experience would be an asset


· RPF designation through FPBC
