Organization Overview

LDS - Learn. Develop. Succeed. is a growing, innovative, research-based, educational nonprofit charity serving children, youth and adults with diagnosed or suspected learning differences such as dyslexia and dyscalculia and other brain-based differences like ADHD and ASD. Our growing, affordable programs and services operate throughout Canada live online, from our Learning Centres in East Vancouver and North Vancouver, at in-school locations, and in Access, our electric vehicle mobile classroom.

Purpose of Position

Senior instructors dedicate roughly 70% of their time to work related to their own instructional sessions. Instructional sessions are one-to-one and one-to-three with school-aged (Kindergarten to grade 12) learners, delivering individualized and comprehensive learning support that is neuroaffirming, strengths-based, and evidence-based. The other roughly 30% of the role is dedicated to mentorship, support, and training of other instructors. The exact division of work varies across the year and is impacted by organizational needs.

Principal Roles and Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain a learning environment that is neuroaffirming, strengths-based, and enjoyable for all learners, at all times.

  • Quickly build a strong rapport with learners and provide social-emotional support in relation to learning.

  • Identify learner strengths and challenges through informal and formal assessment

  • Draw from multiple resources and curricula to develop and implement year-long learning plans and daily lesson plans for your assigned learners that are individualized, neuroaffirming, strength-based, evidence-based, technology-enhanced and linked to measurable learning goals

  • Monitor and adjust lesson planning to best meet learner needs and goals daily and over the course of the year

  • Write formal progress reports, within a given template and format, three times a year, with or without assistive technology like Grammarly or speech-to-text software.

  • Write and send session notes to learners/families following each session, with or without assistive technology like Grammarly or speech-to-text software.

Mentorship and Instructor Support

  • Mentorship of new instructors, from onboarding through their first 3 months of instruction, in any/all of the instructor roles and responsibilities

  • Observation of sessions to provide feedback on neuroaffirming, strengths-based and individualized instructional approach

  • Training or mentorship of instructors in areas of the senior instructor’s instructional expertise

  • As needed: support with instructional resource management (renewal and subscription, digital resource organization)

  • As needed: support for the case management team with admin or instructor-related tasks

Be a respectful LDS team member.

Competencies

  • Comprehensive understanding of neurodiversity and the wide variety of learning, sensory, and social-emotional profiles and support needs of neurodivergent learners.
