Job Description - Senior Joint Venture Representative

Primary Purpose of Position:
Reporting to the Vice President, Commercial and Downstream Marketing, the Senior Joint Venture Representative provides leadership and expertise in the negotiation, administration, and optimization of joint venture agreements. This role acts as a key liaison with partners, internal stakeholders, and regulatory bodies to ensure commercial value is maximized and all agreements are executed in compliance with company standards and Alberta oil & gas regulations.



Responsibilities:



  • Lead the negotiation, drafting, and execution of complex operated and non-operated agreements, ensuring       alignment with corporate strategy and Sinopec Canada standards.   

  • Oversee preparation and approval of exhibits, schedules, and appendices for company operated agreements.

  • Direct and coordinate internal reviews of company operated and third-party agreements, identifying commercial risks and recommending mitigation strategies.

  • Serve as the primary company representative in partner negotiations and joint venture committee meetings.

  • Monitor the full life cycle of agreements, proactively identifying opportunities to optimize value and reduce risk.

  • Resolve high value or complex contractual and billing discrepancies with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Prepare and present comprehensive agreement summaries and commercial recommendations to senior     management and cross functional teams.

  • Review and approve operated and non-operated Mail Ballots, AFEs, and annual operating budgets for all Sinopec operated and partner operated facilities.

  • Provide strategic oversight of non-operated take-or-pay obligations and other long term contractual commitments.

  • Conduct advanced financial and operational analysis of joint venture assets to support acquisitions, divestitures, and optimization opportunities.

  • Mentor and provide guidance to staff, fostering professional development and knowledge sharing.



Position Knowledge, Skills and Experience:



  • Expert knowledge of joint venture principles, Alberta oil & gas regulations, and industry best practices.

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, CS Explorer, Peloton Landview, Qbyte, Accumap, JIBLink, and AFE Navigator.

  • Strong negotiation and communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to influence at all organizational levels and with external partners.

  • Proven ability to manage complex workloads, set priorities, and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.

  • Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities, with a focus on team collaboration and professional growth.

  • High level of integrity, consistently modeling the company’s core values and ethical standards.

  • Demonstrated success working in diverse, multicultural business environments.



Required Education:



  • Bachelor’s degree in commerce and/or technical diploma in a business discipline, or another related discipline



Minimum Required Years of Experience:



  • 8+ years of progressive experience in Joint Venture roles within the oil & gas industry.



Required Professional Designation(s):



  • Petroleum Joint Venture Analyst (PJVA) certificate or equivalent recognized industry designation.
