Job Description - Senior Land Use Planner (15+ years)

Novatech is seeking a Senior Planner to lead one of our Planning and Development teams.  We are looking for a candidate who is passionate about the opportunity to facilitate the growth and development of the City of Ottawa and eastern Ontario.  If you desire an opportunity for leadership, continued professional growth, involvement in a variety of multi-disciplinary projects, and have the enthusiasm conducive to working in a dynamic team environment, this may be an ideal fit.

What You’ll Do

Leadership and Client Relationships
•    Lead, develop and mentor a Planning and Development team in a collaborative multi-disciplinary environment
•    Actively engage with current and prospective clients, building and maintaining relationships
•    Provide strategic advice and direction throughout all project stages
•    Prepare proposals


Planning Responsibilities
•    Conduct due diligence activities and project feasibility evaluations
•    Provide direction and review preliminary concept plans; review and coordinate development applications, including                Official Plan and Zoning By-Law amendments, as well as Committee of Adjustment, Plan of Subdivision, Site Plan Control         and Plan of Condominium approvals
•    Liaise with clients, other consultants, municipalities and other associated agencies in the pursuit of approvals,                          communicating project information and managing project timelines
•    Lead and participate in public meetings, hearings and events for development approval applications 
•    Negotiate agreements and conditions of approval (e.g., subdivision and site plan conditions/agreements, condominium          registration, permits, etc.)
•    Prepare for and act as an expert witness at the Ontario Land Tribunal
•    Maintain current knowledge of municipal policy; identify, analyze and make recommendations on emerging planning              issues and inform clients and colleagues of changing trends. 
•    Participate in industry and municipal liaison committees and meetings


Skills & Experience You’ll Need
•    15+ years of planning experience, ideally in or closely related to the land development sector
•    Experience in leading, managing and mentoring a planning team 
•    Ability to lead multiple projects in a fast-paced multi-disciplinary work environment
•    Effective networking and relationship management skills
•    Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills 
•    Strong strategic thinking, time management, organization and delegation skills
•    Commitment to excellence and high-quality work with a strong attention to detail and accuracy
•    Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
•    Valid Province of Ontario driver’s license 




Education and Accreditation Required
•    University degree in Urban and Regional Planning or equivalent 
•    RPP designation
•    Membership in Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI) or comparable equivalent
