Surrey Police Service (SPS) is Surrey’s new municipal police agency. The transition from the RCMP to SPS is well underway and SPS has spent the past three years building a local, modern, accountable police service for Surrey residents. On November 29, 2024, SPS will become the police of jurisdiction, assuming responsibility for policing and law enforcement in Surrey.

About the Role
SPS has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Marketing Communications Specialist to join the Communications Section within the Office of the Chief Constable. This position supports marketing communication activities for the police service and ensures alignment with SPS strategic priorities and needs.

Reporting to the Digital Communications Manager, the successful candidate will lead and manage communication strategies including but not limited to design, research, examining analytics and deploying surveys. They will direct and develop multi-channel marketing and communications plans, programs, and deliverables for multiple portfolios, campaigns, and key projects. This includes preparing creative marketing collateral, corporate reports, memos, speaking notes, presentations, content, and other written material in multiple online and offline mediums. The senior specialist would also be responsible for providing communications advice, judgment, and guidance to internal clients on assigned programs, corporate campaigns, and initiatives including key messaging, fact sheets and talking points in support of issues management and crisis management. Also, the successful candidate will provide coaching, training, and feedback to junior staff on strategies, policy direction and guiding frameworks and complete administration related to the work.

This position will require an experienced communications professional with a demonstrated ability to be creative and innovative with knowledge and an understanding of multiple distribution channels to respond to diverse needs. The successful candidate will have strong public relation skills with a customer focus and an ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders. The incumbent will be able to keep current with emerging marketing and communications practices with proficiency in MS Office programs and the Adobe suite of programs (InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere Pro). The ideal candidate will have a university/college level degree in a communications-related discipline plus at least five (5) years of directly related experience, including two (2) years of supervisory experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Experience with SharePoint, Google Analytics, Drupal/CMS platforms are assets.

The salary range for this position is $47.52 - $53.84/hr (pay grade 27). This position is unionized represented by CUPE Local 402.
