Position Title : Mechanical Design Team LeaderMAJOR DUTIES:In addition to fulfilling the requirements of the Mechanical Designer, a Team Leader’s responsibilities also include the duties listed below.TEAM LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES:Single point of contact for his/her team both to delegate work & requests & to escalate issuesGeneral supervision, training, and guidance of all Mechanical engineering designers that are part of his/her teamResponsible for team performance in respect to meeting departmental and project-based milestone and KPIsAccountability for Delivery, Quality, Productivity, Cost, Safety and Idea Completion for their teamFoster and atmosphere of creativity, efficiency, and collaboration within the teamRoll out company & departmental objectives to team membersEvaluate team member performance and complete regular reviewsConduct 1:1 with team members on regular basis to continuously develop & coach themResponsible for Cost and Schedule oversight of all the projects assigned to the teamAssigns his/her team to the day to day direct labour activities thru daily standup meetingsEnsures, checks and approves that all work product produced by his/her design team members are acceptable based on the functionality, adherence to standards, accuracy, completeness, and consideration for safety.Work with team and encourage team members to identify opportunities for continuous improvement, support implementation of suggestions and confirm completion of continuous improvement suggestions.Approves all material requisitions for projects assigned to his/her team.Maintains labour, material and schedule forecast information and any appropriate execution improvement plans provided to Program Management for programs assigned to his/her team.Ensures that scheduled milestones relating to Mechanical engineering design are achieved.Collaborate with Mechanical Managers to set goals and manage successful performance for his/her team members.Reviews and evaluates new Mechanical design related products to provide a cost effective, and up-to-date mechanical solution.Ensures that all employees, under their direction, are aware of, and follow all Health and Safety procedures, established by the Company & responsible for Safety of all employees in his teamEnsures that all employees receive job specific training so as to be able to work effectively, and where needed, provide the employee with written instructionsUnderstanding of all Jobs done by your team – can cover anyone during vacation / absenceINDIVIDUAL CONTRIBUTOR RESPONSIBILITIES::Create Concept Designs and Basis Of Design (BOD) DocumentsEnsures that Peer to Peer Reviews are completed (verify work of team membersAssist in detail deign when required by Team MembersParticipates in development and implementation of tools, methods and modules ensuring standards maintained.Works with other members of the Mechanical Design department and other teams to continuously improve methods and tools for Mechanical design, driving enhanced modularity, standardization, and functionality.Works with members of the Mechanical Design department and other teams to ensure that cost and schedule budgets are adhered to or improved upon.Collaborates with Applications eam in support of proposals and owns the jobs won from concept to through-life support.Works with other members of the project team, both ATS and non-ATS, to develop a Mechanical design that provides the functionality required, based on ATS standards and the customers specifications.Works with team members, customers, project managers, designers, toolmakers, and electricians to solve problems in order to provide the customer with a product or service compliant with their requirements.Attend Customer Approval MeetingsAttend project meetings such as (but not limited to): PKO, WINN, PEP, WhiteboardAct as Manger Backup when neededGENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:Ensures that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the ATS Code of Business Conduct.Work in compliance with divisional health, safety and environmental procedures.Refrain from removing or altering safety devices or guarding unless hazardous energies are controlled through lockout-tagout methods.Report any unsafe conditions or unsafe acts.Report defect in any equipment or protective device.Ensure that the required protective equipment is used for the assigned tasks.Attend all required health, safety and environmental training.Report any accidents/incidents to supervisor.Assist in investigating accidents/incidents.Refrain from engaging in any prank, contest, feat of strength, unnecessary running or rough and boisterous conduct.SUPERVISORS: SUPERVISORS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR PROMOTING, MONITORING AND ENFORCING WORK PRACTICES WHICH SUPPORT THE PREVENTION OF WORKPLACE ILLNESS AND INJURY, AS WELL AS PROTECTION OF THE ENVIRONMENT.SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES FOR HEALTH, SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENT INCLUDE:Ensure that equipment, materials and protective devices are functioning in a safe mannerEnsure that employees are working in accordance with divisional health and safety proceduresApplies progressive discipline as appropriate for health, safety and/or environmental violationsAdvise employees of the existence of any potential or actual health and safety risksProvide appropriate instruction for safe workTake every precaution reasonable in the circumstances for the protection of employeesConduct periodic inspections and audits in accordance with legislative and/or corporate requirementsConduct accident/incident investigations, prepare necessary reports and communicate to line management, health and safety personnel and health and safety committeeEnsure that all employees, including temporary workers and contractors, adhere to safety requirements including the use of personal protective equipmentSupport activities and initiatives outlined by the Joint Health and Safety CommitteeQUALIFICATIONSEducation:A post-secondary diploma, degree or equivalent qualification, specializing in mechanical design.Experience:Demonstrated experience in an industrial development environment, producing custom machinery design. Proven leadership qualities including; good oral and written communication skills, ability to work with and motivate team members, and a willingness to take responsibility for key aspects needed for job completion. This includes hands-on experience in manufacturing and machine debug.
