What You Would Do in This Role
The Senior Piping Stress engineer will participate in all piping stress activities related to the oil and gas projects from inception to completion. Duties will include:
Assist Lead Stress Engineer with the preparation and organization of stress calculations
Preparing and reviewing stress calculation reports
Performing stress calculations using CAESAR II and AutoPIPE software in accordance with B31.3 and CSA Z662 code requirements
Performing local stress calculations, slug force calculations and flange leakage calculations using company or industry-approved software
Performing nozzle load and support load calculations
Preparing and reviewing reports and stress mark-ups showing re-routing requirements and support types and locations
Reviewing and approving piping isometrics and general arrangement drawings
Preparing and reviewing specialty item datasheets for spring supports, expansion joints, snubbers, and other engineered pipe supports (EPS).
Preparing and reviewing specialty pipe supports (SPS) datasheets
Preparing material requisitions (MRs) and performing technical bid evaluations (TBEs) for EPS and SPS
Supervising and training junior stress engineers
Performing detailed calculations as required
Providing comprehensive engineering and design services by establishing design criteria and preparing specifications, design computations, drawings, models in accordance with project requirements
Exercising cost/budget control, and reviewing and monitoring project deliverables for conformance with controlled estimates
Reviewing and maintaining project schedules, and tracking project progress as required by project management
Coordinating stress analysis with all involved disciplines including Piping Design, CSA, Mechanical and Process
Interfacing with client representatives as required
Maintaining current knowledge of industry and regulatory standards
Reviewing vendor or subcontractor quotations, drawings, and specifications for technical adequacy and conformance with project requirements
Applying advanced engineering techniques and analyses to complex engineering tasks
Adhering to Vista Quality Management System (QMS)
Ensuring design is in accordance with applicable codes and requirements, including Vista and client specifications and standards
Assigning and coordinating work for other stress team members and reviewing their work for technical accuracy and adequacy
Actively stewarding change management as related to their scopes of work
Preparing or assisting in the preparation of discipline inputs for cost estimates for proposals
Providing construction support
Authenticating documentation with a professional engineering stamp as required
Performing other duties within the scope of competency as requested
Requirements
Ten years of progressive experience in piping stress engineering of facility piping and pipelines in the energy sector
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mechanical engineering or an equivalent applied science combined with the relative experience
Ability to work and collaborate within a multi-disciplinary team including Process, Mechanical, Civil, Structural & Architectural, Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls and Piping Design as well as Project Management and Procurement personnel.
P.Eng. registration with APEGA
Proficiency with Caesar II, AutoPIPE, FEPipe, Navisworks, Bluebeam, and other software and tools used for piping stress analysis and collaboration
Proficiency with MS Office apps and tools
Strong written and oral communication skills
Strong organizational skills, technical competence and attention to detail
Self-motivated and efficient in time management
Strong working knowledge and understanding of applicable codes and industry standards
Ability to meet safety requirements to attend site visits
