Position Overview
Dokainish & Company is seeking a Senior Project Planner to provide senior-level schedule planning, schedule analysis, and schedule oversight services across complex capital renewal projects within a national science and research facility renewal program.
The successful candidate will be respo
ble for the development of integrated project schedules, critical path analysis, schedule risk assessment, and schedule performance monitoring. This role requires a seasoned planning professional with deep expertise in capital project scheduling, strong analytical skills, and the ability to provide strategic schedule advice to program leadership and project teams.
Key Responsibilities
Schedule Development and Planning
- Develop and maintain integrated project schedules for complex capital renewal projects using Primavera P6
- Define project sequencing, activity logic, durations, milestones, and critical path
- Integrate cost-loaded and resource-loaded scheduling as required by program controls frameworks
- Develop schedule basis documents, scheduling narratives, and planning assumptions
- Support the development of master program schedules and schedule integration across projects
Schedule Monitoring and Control
- Monitor project progress and schedule performance against approved baselines
- Perform schedule variance analysis, trend analysis, and earned value schedule metrics
- Conduct schedule risk analysis and develop risk-adjusted schedule scenarios
- Identify schedule risks, delays, and recovery strategies, and provide recommendations to project teams
- Review and assess contractor schedules, progress claims, and time extension requests
Program Reporting and Governance
- Prepare schedule reports, dashboards, and executive summaries for program leadership and governance bodies
- Support governance reviews, milestone tracking, and program-level schedule reporting
- Maintain schedule baselines, logs, and audit trails in accordance with program standards
- Contribute to continuous improvement of scheduling standards, processes, and tools
Stakeholder Coordination
- Collaborate with project managers, cost specialists, engineers, and program leadership
- Provide strategic schedule advice to support project and program decision-making
- Facilitate schedule workshops, look-ahead sessions, and progress review meetings
Key Deliverables
- Integrated project schedules (Primavera P6)
- Schedule basis documents and planning narratives
- Schedule analysis reports, variance reports, and trend analyses
- Schedule risk analysis and scenario reports
- Schedule forecasts and milestone tracking reports
- Executive-level schedule summaries and dashboards
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a closely related discipline
Certifications/ Other
- Planning and Scheduling Professional (PSP) certification from AACE International, Preferred
- PMP certification or equivalent considered an asset
- Must hold or be eligible to obtain Federal Government Reliability Status security clearance
Experience
- Minimum of 10-15 years of progressive project planning and scheduling experience in the construction or infrastructure sector
- Demonstrated experience supporting complex capital programs or multi-project portfolio environments
- Experience with institutional, laboratory, healthcare, or specialized infrastructure projects preferred
- Experience with schedule risk analysis methodologies and tools
Technical Competencies
- Advanced proficiency with Oracle Primavera P6 (scheduling, resource loading, cost loading, reporting)
- Strong knowledge of critical path method (CPM), earned value management (EVM), and schedule risk analysis
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Project, and schedule analysis tools
- Familiarity with project controls frameworks and integrated cost-schedule management

- Strong analytical, strategic, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities in complex program environments
- High degree of professional integrity, attention to detail, and commitment to quality
