Job Responsibilities
(Internal Role: Engineering IV)
Performing and reviewing Project Safety analyses (from preliminary hazards analysis to certification in alignment with client standards and guidelines
Contributing to the development of The Project Safety Certification Plan in collaboration with the project teams
Performing and reviewing Project RAMS analysis and defining targets and performance requirements
Review of the CEP projects’ systems assurance activities and potentially update them
Contributing to the Safety and assurance activities’ acceptance criteria for the projects
Review the Project Safety Certification plans and oversight the execution of the Safety Certification activities
Review (Safety and assurance aspects) of pre-design, design, and V&V deliverables
Support Requirement management and interface management activities
Liaison with the client's Safety departments on behalf of CEP
Liaison with O&M, V&V, and integration leads to support CEP projects’ integration and handover
Engage in the practice of professional engineering which:
Requires the application of engineering principles
Is an act of planning, designing, composing, evaluating, advising, reporting, directing or supervising, or managing any of these acts
Involves the safeguarding of life, health, property, economic interests, the public welfare or the environment
Ensure compliance with regulations and guidelines for the practice of professional engineering in the Province of licensure including but not limited to professional responsibility, Engineer’s duty to report, use of the Professional Engineer’s seal, due diligence, report writing, giving opinions, communications, confidential information, data gathering, and site investigations
Perform day-to-day project-specific tasks and duties as planned and identified
Forecast, direct, and execute appropriate means and methods to complete the task on a large-size, or high-complexity project from inception through to completion
Outline the human and material resources required to complete a project successfully
Manage the work and control the delivery of the project per plan
Monitor staff performance to ensure excellence and adherence to specified deadlines
Review and ensure adherence to the scope, schedule, and budget
Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies and contingency plans
Track, monitor, and report on performance against project requirements and address issues with corrective actions as appropriate
Evaluate project effectiveness by consulting with clients and project staff
Develop and deliver progress reports, proposals, and presentations to various audiences including team and key stakeholders
Manage and support scope change negotiations
Clarify internal quality control checks and participate in quality issue resolution
Define success criteria and disseminate them to involved parties throughout the project and program life cycle
Recommend and manage project and program expectations while delegating and managing deliverables with team members and stakeholders

Qualifications Required
Experience:
Minimum of 12 years of experience in Engineering area of specialty
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Architecture, combined with extensive experience in the areas of projects/construction and program / systems integration of, multi-disciplined projects preferably in the transit industry
Licenses OR Certifications:
Holding a recognized PEng. or licensed Architect or in the Province of practice
Skills and Competencies:
Knowledge and experience in Automatic Train Control systems assurance is necessary while knowledge and experience in other rail systems (Traction Power, Trackwork, Fire Ventilation, and Communication systems) and rapid transit operation and maintenance would be an asset
Project and program management principles, processes, and practices, including conceptual planning and all phases of design
Integration project and program management information systems, processes, and reporting as it relates to control of scope, scheduling, and cost
Construction techniques and practices, contract administration, and knowledge of the Construction Lien Act, as related to subway and transit work
Knowledge of government regulations, legislation and standards, safety regulations, and procedures applicable to the project
Sound judgment; highly developed time management, organizational, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills; excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Demonstrated ability to manage and work with multi-disciplined teams, deal with complex issues, and maintain effective working relationships
Demonstrated ability to motivate, influence, and obtain cooperation from a diverse group of internal and external project stakeholders to achieve the goals and objectives of the project
Strong understanding of prevailing Engineering means and methods in the area of specialty
Effectively lead a large Engineering team
Ability to work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment by ensuring effective teamwork, promotion of innovation, and overall excellence
Demonstrated functional acumen to support how solutions will address client goals while maintaining alignment with industry best practices
Proven capacity to anticipate, identify, and minimize risks
Expert ability to detect, capitalize on, and be sensitive to others' strengths
Tact to perceive and ameliorate conflict and tension
Capability to supervise, delegate, and develop capacity
Advanced skills in Microsoft Office
Expert knowledge of applicable Engineering-related software
Must maintain professional development to keep abreast of emerging technologies, methods, and best practices
Ability to arrange priorities and escalate competing risks to meet deadlines with minimum input from leadership
Keen eye for detail and adept problem-solving abilities
Must have demonstrated experience relaying and receiving information (written and verbal)
Expert ability to work collaboratively and independently in a structured, disciplined, technology-driven environment
